I did this one a few years ago. It wasn't the first story I did by a long way, but it was my first photo story idea which I wasn't able to put in comic form when I first had the idea.

Just a simple one pager to start myself off here at AMMO.

Thanks so much, guys! Very Happy

Ackie, that figure is a Classic Collection Joe from the late 90's. I can't exactly remember what set he came with.

Thanks,
Brian

lol! Short and sweet!.. Nice one Bri!,

Your comic layout is sharp and clear as usual Very Happy. I've never seen a finder scope on binos before?.

There's some good "boat races" ( Faces ) about in the modern Joe range.. i wish Hasbro would set up shop here in the UK.

Very nice comic strip. Loved looking at it & always nice to see a PH. Even if he can't hold binoculars all that well lol.

One from the vaults! I've not seen this before - great sentiment, great layout and color!

What an anomaly our plastic man is. I read somewhere that the President (?) of Hasbro was originally against a doll for boys, but was swayed by the whole 'Action Figure' tag. Didn't he also throw a prototype figure against the office wall and say something along the lines of if it can withstand that kind of thumping then he'd go with it. Then of course, there's the fabulous quality of all those early issue fatigues and equipment, but as your comic story reminds us, Bri, despite all of this investment

they still produced a figure that couldn't hold the gear Laughing Laughing Laughing

It really didn't matter back then Andy and George were getting it done, and the commercials were cool! We were still kids and accepted it!

Thanks, guys! Very Happy

I agree, Rick, when Joe first came out we were so happy to have a large scale military figure that we were willing to overlook some shortcomings.

I think I've heard or read that story about him throwing it against the wall, Jim.

Clive, the binocs are from a Hasbro set from the 90's, Classic Collection. I can't remember which one just now.

Joe came out in 1964. When was it that Action Man became available? Were you able to get Joe/Hasbro in the UK? If you weren't able to get the figures before, I guess there would have been a pent-up demand by the time AMan came out. When the AMan 40th sets came out, I was amazed at all the different sets and gear that were never made by Hasbro. Especially the cememonial uniforms. And, of course, Palitoy came out with the flocked heads before Hasbro did it, and I think, the gripping hands too.

Thanks for the intel on the binocs, Bri.

Action Man became available here in the UK in 1966. The demand for them was far more than expected, and as a result, the factory making them couldn't keep up, so a load of bare G.I.JOES were shipped over from Canada and kitted out with Action Man labeled uniforms (this is what i've heard). They were then boxed in Action Man boxes and sold to the UK public as Action Man. These Joes are referred to as English Joes, i have a few of them from loft/attic finds.

Great work Bri,those black binos were also dished out in several modern action man sets.
The demand for action man pretty much kept pace untill the late seventies early eighties.
