Biography: Keiko Kobayashi, known simply as “Kobie” to her friends is a graduate of the Terran Star Service academy and holds a master’s degree in astrophysics with a minor in biochemistry. This background made her a natural for the exploratory branch of the service and she served with distinction in several positions in the Terran fleet before having her career ruined as a result of the “Disappearing Planet Incident.” Seeing her chances for further promotion dashed, she resigned her commission and accepted another as a full commander in the Hydran Federation Fleet where she currently serves as s commander of Squadron 13, a mix of old, surplus Terran scout ships and corvettes, all of which have been heavily modified and up gunned for service in this remote area of space.
Her command ship, oddly enough is a former merchant cruiser, essentially a fast trading vessel that was seized from smugglers and up gunned for military purposes. It’s 60 ton cargo hold usually carries resupplies of food and other consumables for the other ships in her squadron, and at the same time, doubles as a storage place for the booty the squadron members discretely pilfer from captured smugglers and pirates, then re-sell on frontier outposts for high profits while the higher ups conveniently look the other way so long as they get a cut of the profits.
Kobie is close friends with Captain Rochelle “Rocky” Jones, one of the skippers in her squadron, and relies on Rocky for missions that call brute force over brains.
