When New G.I. Joe first started in 1970, Takara offered leftover military era G.I. Joe sets as part of the line. A cardboard "New G.I. Joe" banner was taped over the upper left corner of these sets. Here is what one of those looks like.

New G.I. Joe was eventually replaced by the Allies of Justice, which in turn were replaced by Henshin Cyborg, which was subsequently replaced by Android Ace and Invader. 1:6 scale figures were finally dropepd entirely in favor of the 3 3/4" Microman figures. It wasn't until the 1980s that 1:6 scale figures made a comeback in Japan. Initially this was with Tsukuda's release of overstock Palitoy Action Man toys, and ended with the final trio of Tsukuda Original Action Man sets, like this U.S. Marine Corps figure.
