Welcome Grapple Fans. Sadly neither in the Red or Blue Corner Mick died at the age of 92 a week or so ago.

Saturday's as a kid were great, egg and chip lunch an afternoon in the garden digging life size foxholes and playing with my Action Men, then all packed away in time to watch the wrestling with my dad and big brother. My mum was often ring side when wrestling came to our town as she was a member of the St John's Ambilance. She told us how it was all fixed but we loved it. My brothers favourite bout was Cat weasel vs Mick McManus, search it on you tube.

Such amazing memories from a long gone era. Thanks to Mum for the egg and chips, mum and dad for handing the back garden over to us kids, to Pallitoy for the best toy ever and British Wrestling to all the laughs and excitement. A childhood worth living.

Hi Mark

I hadn't realised that the great one had passed on,

my Dad and me would watch the wrestling every Saturday when I was a kid in the 70's and in to the 80's

Mick McManus, Jackie Pallo, Big Daddy, Kendo Nagasaki, Cat Weasel, Giant Haystacks............legends all

PMSL Sir Sid. My brother was sooooo excited when Kendo Nagasaki was unmasked he jumped up out of his seat and when he landed he was sitting on the floor having broken the rubber straps holding the cushions on. :-)

I also remember Saturday afternoon wrestling on World of Sport who was the other guy who looked very similar who often used to Tag Team with Mick McManus? I also liked the Royal Brothers especially in Tag Team and Alan Kilby the deaf lad from Sheffield! It may have been "scripted" much like American Wrestling but at least it was an equal opportunity sport in that you didn't have to have a perfect steroid induced muscular body to take part! In fact many of the top heroes and villains would have terrified a dietician with Body Mass Index chart! bounceLaughing

Great stuff Mark, did you see the documentary a few weeks back about wrestling? It was either BBC3 or 4, great show.

Well worth looking for if you missed it.

Pretty sure I saw Big Daddy disqualified in a tag team when fighting with Dave Boy Green against the Mighty John Quinn and possibly King King Kirk. Might be imagining it though Dal. When Big Daddy started he was in a Tag Team with Giant Haystacks. They were both Baddies!! Ring must have been made from seriously strong stuff :-)
