PostSubject: Was I brave or foolish?   Sun Dec 22, 2013 1:20 am

Well guys I took all three kids ice skating yesterday and in spite of the rain (it was outside in front of the Rotal Pavillion) we had the time of our lives. I can't remember the last time I smiled, or screamed so much. 30 years ago I did a bit and got reasonably good but having had brain surgery and then been in the wheel-chair for so long had no idea if I would be able to do it. My first steps were precarious, but after a couple of minutes it all came back and I didn't fall over at all. Now this is where I question my sanity. My wife wouldn't come even to watch as if I had fallen and hit the back of my head at best I would have had a few weeks in hospital and at worst I'd be dead!

Should I do it again? I loved it!!!!! It was brilliant finding something to do with all three kids at the same time too. Have to wait till next year :-)

If you go skating you should wear a helmet.

Here in Canada the "ice" at the beginning of skating and hockey doesn't exist -- no need for it.  To us it sounds a little strange, like someone saying they're going water kayaking.   Wink

Skating is so much fun! I'm glad you and your family had a great time Sparkys  Smile  Doug is right, make sure you wear a helmet next time!

I'm thinking of getting a Skateboard to go with my 1970's retro LED watches, just for old times sake! (1977)  Very Happy

Well other people beat me to the helmet call however I would add the caveat that it is not guaranteed to protect you so don't get the "superman" complex a lot of people do when wearing body armour! It might be worth consulting your Doctor about whether a helmet will afford you adequate protection from the potential head trauma so that you can accurately assess the risk you are taking?

Sorry not trying to be a killjoy! Embarassed

My grandad was an ASSOCIATION football referee as opposed to a RUGBY football referee and he drilled it into us kids. Only when wanting to annoy him did we dare call it soccer.

Fear not, SirSid, you won't be eaten -- we colonials are far too upper class for that....  Wink
