Action Marine

Last summer I picked up this battered Action Soldier. Since he's a redhead, I put him in some cammies.










Thanks to some members of the local Joe collecting club, this Action Marine is nearly ready for action!

Never understood it either; but generally hair color had a correlation with job title.

Black/Brown: Action Soldier
Red: Action Sailor/Marine
Blonde: Action Pilot

The same system continued into the AT era.

Mind you, this was hardly standard.

Ah, the SOTW line is a whole 'nother ballgame!

I believe that system is:
Blonde: German Stormtrooper
Red: Russian soldier
Brown/Black: French Resistance

The Australian jungle fighter apparently came in multiple hair colors.

I believe the US SOTW figures are referred to as "Sour Face" in the UK.   All the VAM SOTW figures have the scar GI Joe heads.

do the sour heads have a different face for uniforms or just random

My personal preference is French = black hair, German = blonde, Russian = Red, Aussie and British = brown.

Here is a response from GI Joe FAQ: Vintage Joes:

Did the the 1960's foreign soldiers have hair color specific to the set, or were they vaired? Could you get a German in blonde, black, red, or brown, or just in blonde?

The Japanese was only available in black hair. The others were available in a all hair colors. -- Joe Bodnarchuk

Sharp Marine soldier!

Just a minor update; I was able to acquire a vintage Hasbro Marine helmet for him. The original KO one he wore was pretty good. It's hard to tell them apart without looking at the inside.

not only do you have an impressive selection of vintage Joe's and Action Man, but you also have a wonderful selection of modern figures too ! . Fantastic Nate!, maybe you could post some of your modern figures in their own thread in 1/6 collections?

The Corpsman and Gunny figures came out around 1999/2000, the Lt is a BBi fig that is about 1-2 years newer. The uniforms are 21st from the same period, although the Gunny's trousers are bit newer, as is the medical gear. The Lt's webbing is SOTW from about 2002/2003; the Gunny's is Gearbox. The Corpsman is an "Adam", which was the nude basic figure DML released back in 1999. they came in blonde and brunette versions. I bought out my local store of them; and have them sprinkled throughout the collection.
