Restored L1A1 SLR and a little more accurate to boot.

Well we all know how the barrel snaps off the SLR don't we.

Here is something I have been doing but mods to actually make it more accurate. As i do not want to pay the silly prices for the DML L1A1s.

All you need is milliput and plastic or metal tubing for the barrel.

Milliput the Put end to make more accurate and also add's a little extra length. Next once set dremel out the fore where the new barrel will sit. Attach and secure with milliput and glued in place.
Also milliput or plasticard the higher Fore sight.

Not been brave enough to try my hand at making the carry handle working...yet.

Then paint with wood or plastic furniture as well as barrel.

I have a few SLR's in need of new barrels so I will add that job to my long list of things to do.

Great looking repairs! Decent SLRs are hard to find. I think 21st made a folding stock version; not sure if it was the 7.62 mm or 5.56mm version. I know the former was used by the Argentines in the Falklands.

That looks so great :-) My Dad's tried Milliput and he said it sticks to hands and tools so much he couldn't get on with it - did he get a bad batch or is there a tip for him?

@wisan, is your Father using water too? If you have wet palms, fingertips it does not stick so much as using it dry. Remember "lube" up with water That or wear surgical gloves but still use water too.

Your not supposed to lick tools, fingertips but I am very guilty of that in all my years of using milliput LOL Not died yeeeeeeeeet.

Yep, I use water too, not that Milliput is really sticky, I would say it has a plasticine consistency. Ive tried many types of epoxy putty and I would say Milliput is my favourite (in fact just bought some on e-bay yesterday for a modelling project).
