Part of the immense popularity of G.I. Joe was due to an advertising blitz engineered by Don Levine of Hasbro. He wanted to create what he called "hall talk" between school boys. One of his strategies was to use a popular medium of the pre-adolescent boy -- comics.

In this case Hasbro licensed DC Comics to do 2 Showcase editions featuring G.I. Joe. This is the first comic, DC Comics Showcase #53 December, 1964.

WOW! Doug, that's fantastic. Keep 'em coming!

I have a couple from the original GI Joe comics, but they are from the 50s, long before any tie in with Hasbro, or should I say Hasenfeld Brothers!

Thanks for bumping this back up, Clive, and thank you Doug for posting this. I remember seeing this back when you posted it. I think I was so busy right-click saving it that I forgot to thank you, so Thank you!!!

This is so right up the alley of my childhood. Every part of it is familiar to me from the G. I. Joe ad, Joe Kubert art, short comics, Aurora Monsters and even the body building ad. This is just what I spent hours and hours reading and imagining as a young boy and central to it all was (and still is) G. I. Joe.
