Well, I might need to turn in my man card, but my collection now includes a Ken doll, sort of.

As part of the festivities celebrating the golden anniversary of Star Trek, Mattel released several figures of characters through the Barbie line. There were some that were merely Barbie and Ken in Starfleet, but others were more realistic. The Orion slave girl was a San Diego Comic-con exclusive, but Kirk, Spock and Uhura were general releases.

Kirk was a bit underwhelming, but Spock looked pretty good, so the missus got me one as an early Valentine's Day gift.

So how does he stack up with other 1/6 releases?

First, with a few vintage Space travelers:

With contemporary 1/6 figs:

From Left to right, Power Team, BBi G1, Spock, Sideshow Toys, DML:

Overall, Spock is a decent figure, but you can definitely tell where Mattel cut corners. He's extremely thin and light compared to every other figure. It's a super-articulated Ken, but still falls far short.

Velcro closures and cheap boots:

I wonder if Spock is available at my local Toys R Us (uk) i wouldn't mind one. Yes, Kirk doesn't look like Kirk at all.

Mattel, what a cheek selling boots with an unsightly split up the back scratch

Thanks for the intresting intel Nate Smile

Not a bad figure. I suppose we should be grateful that Mattel at least made an effort for Star Trek's 50th. It's more than Hasbro did for GI Joe's! The cheapness is probably because Mattel assume 90% of the figures will be kept unopened and so things like the back of the boots aren't an issue.

I quite like the head sculpt although I can't decide if it's more like Major Matt Mason's Captain Lazer figure or Sheldon Cooper cosplaying Spock in an episode of 'The Big Bang Theory'!! lol!

lol! lol! lol! Sheldon Cooper lol! lol! lol! affraid

Nice figures Nate, but I submit these figures by QmX (Quantum Mechanix) Still time to get in your pre-orders and this Kirk looks Kirkian and not a Mattelifyied Kenian Kirk...

...a little costly...
