Mrs Gunner suprised me with "How would you like to go to the V&A Childhood Museum for your Birthday ?"
So yesterday ( thanks for all the B'day wishes
) We drove to Crewe and jumped on the train to head to old London town.
After a nice lunch ( that bit was for Mrs Gunner
) we headed of to Bethnal Green.
The Museum itself is essentially on two floors and arranged by themes etc . So my mission was to :
-take in the story of childhood
-do plenty of 'oh I had one of those '
-and find our friend Action Man !
So sorry for the quality of the iPhone photos.
Here is Robbie the Robot from Lost in Space- I wouldn't mind him in the VAM cave !!
As the exhibitions are arrange by themes our Action Man was scattered around the place. Hmm I'm thinking 'where is a bit of of a special display for the toy of the decade ??' First sightings.
Quite sparse but some nice kit.
Lovely Jeep and 105 MM Recoilless rifle . I would have loved this as a kid
Next sighting were these chaps in a section about play imitating real life.
All the Sea Wolfs I've seen so far have been Blue ?
The SAS HALO (?) Para was nice too.
The ceremonials were special weren't they ? Also the LRDG set is a good looking set.
The RM Artic and Scuba diver
The next spot was this fantastic display of Action Force.
Imagine having as your job creating these displays for shops and toy fairs ?
The Action Force was way after my first Action Man time, but you could see here the way that the VAM 84 range might have gone?
Plenty of ideas for some MAM vehicle Kitbashes
The next sighting was in the story of manufacturing and protoypes.
Final sighting was in a section related to Space around the corner from Staer Wars were these guys.
Palitoy never seemed to quite get this bit quite right ?
The Dolls house section was brilliant - loads of ideas to support the Airfix Strongpoint
This kitchen was great almost 1/6th scale I think.
Oh I had one of those !!
Lots of fun with a set very similar to this !!
This was a dream never realised- several kids down the street had one - early 70's (71 -3 ?)
And finally I thought this quote is quite apt for all of us
Hope you enjoyed the photo's
