Scans of pictures he took in the 1980's. Vintage pictures, with that unmistakable lowtown vibe.

I've just got a scanner, which is allowing me to post lots of photos that I took with an ordinary old fashioned camera back when dinosaurs roamed the earth.  Every one of these was taken in 1985/86 on an SLR with film you had to send away!  Sadly, I don't still have all these items in my collection.  Lots more like this to follow, too.

Been scanning more of my photos from the 1980s (taken 85/86).  I'm quite happy with the quality of the scans, but the prints are so much crisper and clearer.  I've got about another 50-odd, so I'll just do a few at a time. Anyroad, in no particular order...

I had a crazy notion back then that the guns and grenades would look better painted more 'realistic' colours.  It didn't take me long to realise the folly of this vandalism, and I painstakingly restored them to their original state. More pics

They say, 'when you're in a hole, stop digging...'

More!

I'll stop for now.  Only about another 40 to go!

Fantastic photos all round, lowtown!  You had a great collection when you were a kid!

I'm afraid I wasn't a kid then, I was 20/21! I just collected them and enjoyed photographing them.  Still do!  I had many of the vehicles too:

Had the motorbike and sidecar, capture copter and the assault craft too.  Don't think I must have photographed them.

Oh, there's many more. I did have a girlfriend at this time, honest!

I used to try various kitbashes with varied degree of success.  Notice the homemade DPM pattern!

I loved the underwater explorer but the blue wetsuit top went all hard and crumbled, as did my other wetsuits over time.  Waiting for another blue top to be sold as a loose item on ebay.

My parents' rockery was good scenery in those days

We actually used to get snow in those days!

Some time back I posted some photos I took in the 1980s.  I had about seventy more, but they were on slides.  However, I've now bought a thingummyjig for converting slides and negs into digital images, so I've lots of VAM pictures to post, and here's the first batch.  All these photos are taken in 1984/85/86.  That was when I first started collecting Action Men, just as all the local toy shops were selling off their discontinued stock (I was getting them for a couple of quid for things like the Afrika Korps or the Luftwaffe pilot etc.  WHY WHY WHY WHY didn't I buy a few more of each?!! I didn't though, and twenty five years later I'm beginning to come to terms with it. I still have my horrific flashbacks (four or five Battle of Britain carded outfits in a shop in Brighouse for £2.50 each is one horrific one). I have my good days and bad days, but I'm getting there!
Anyroad, everything here is VAM, mint and recently out of the box (ignore the fact that I sometimes painted guns in more 'realistic' colours (duh!) and it's all Eagle Eye blue pants era stuff:

It wasn't long before I started to kitbash them and try to create some good dioramas:

I just liked playing and messing about with them:

You could still buy bangers then, so this would have been taken around November.  I just lit the blue touch paper, retired to a safe distance and tried to click the camera just at the time the banger went off.  This would have been a much better pic if I had removed the white picket fencing from the background!

Loads more to come, some better than others, but all VAM!

I haven't posted for a while, but I've still got a few of these pics.  I've said it before but it bears repeating for anyone who didn't see my last posts.  All these photos were taken in the mid 1980s when I started collecting Action Man (I was about twenty at this point).  Everything you see is mint, straight out of the box and VAM.

I love the old feel these have. They're like catalog images, but 1000x better!

Interesting looking helmet, it doesn't look like a vam one and doesn't seem to fit right, is it a knock off, has it been custom painted? I wonder what set this came from back in the 1980's???

I'm loving this thread

Thanks Ian for finding these Cool cheers cheers

You can see the early composition thinking that ended up with classics like the Nam patrol of the ETO shots later.

I'm using this as inspiration for the Munrovian stories cheers cheers
