This is part of the Action Man display on sale in Woolworths, Downham, Lancashire, England in 1999..

I would love to do a 5 minute "Mad Trolley Dash" there (dream):

When I find more I will post them here, it was hard hunting this unique image down....

What I don't get, is why is Woolworths still trading online in the EU (Germany) and not in England (Great Britain still  Wink )??? We want Woolworths back, it's part of our culture, answers on the back of a postcard please as to what really went on with the closing down of our Woolworth stores, was someone dodgy behind it.. I would have emptied my piggy bank to buy the Woolworths brand name and keep it going..

You are welcome Gunner,

Woolworths was famous for stocking all the Airfix kits and every 1/32 scale toy soldier you can think of. My nan used to take me to a Woolworths store in Kingston on Thames back in the 1960's, all I can remember was seeing rows of colourful cardboard window boxes with toy soldiers inside, she bought me a Airfix SLR rifle with bayonet, it actually fired plastic bullets from it's clip in magazine, i must of been about 5 years old when i took on my first imaginary Viet Cong/Charlie brigade in my back garden with my SLR  lol!

Great one, Clive!

Woolworths was the main attraction in the center of our town too. It's been gone so long, no one can remember it.

Thanks!

Great picture! That brings back memories! Just look at all those astronauts!! I loved Woolworths - got loads of music, videos and computer games from there, as well as loads of the toys too.

Are the Woolworths in Germany and Australia or New Zealand part of the same company?

Me and or ? My brothers had those rifles , it was as much fun loading the magazine as it was firing it as I recall . And yes I also remember the rows of Airfix stuff , and actually getting lost in our local woolies . Embarassed

Just found this, sorry I'm late Chip... I loved and still do Woolworths, it really was part of our British culture. I used to buy my Super Nintendo games in Woolies because there was some girl I used to fancy who served at the game counter, she was about 24, she liked me too as I found out when she gave me my 2p change in my hand  Wink

We need Woolworths back on the high street again, once we leave the evil dictatorship perhaps it will happen  cheers  cheers  cheers  cheers  bounce  bounce  bounce
