PostSubject: 3D Printing a Blade Runner Blaster!   Mon Nov 06, 2017 9:29 pm

The blaster from the film Blade Runner has never been officially named. Some creative sorts in the 90's, when reproducing it them selves, have dubbed it the Pflager-Katsumata Series D, when abbreviated it is PKD. Phillip K. Dick is the author of the novel that inspired the film, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.

There are several fine reproductions about, but at hellish prices. Even the famed $20 water gun has skyrocketed in price. I have resolved to 3D print my own, as a friend has a 3D printer. This will come with it's own set of challenges involving sanding and painting.

Here is the file(s) so if ever you want to do your own, this is where you can start: https://www.myminifactory.com/object/deckards-blaster-blade-runner-5694

And I made a mock advertisement for it, something you'd see in a Precinct armory, or a gun store.

We might be printing later this week, and I'll keep you all posted here. Very Happy cheers

Wow - 3 D printing Shocked  Shocked
That sounds great - I was thinking about some of the new cold casting materials the other day , but I guess in not so many years 3 D printer will be down in price an we may be able to scan some really interesting kit of the Guys ?

I'm reflecting though that investing in learning to sew might be the biggest 'gift" I could give myself- some of the kit that has been produced by members is awesome .

Good luck with the project Ian- I can see the BR universe has gripped your imagination lately  cheers  cheers

Changed some things about my fictional back-story of the gun (of which there is no "official" cannon).

Hit a little snag with our original plan for the 3D printing.

Only about half the parts I've deemed "appropriate for school," which was always part of the plan, but the 3D printing lab has a limit of 5 files per job, which you also have to get into a que for.

I've got 26 files I thought I'd be able to get done (many of which are quite small), and can only do 5 at a time. The next 5 I can only set up after the previous five is done and picked up, in 1.5 - 2 weeks time.

And we want to make two of these. So, I think we're going to work out a new plan.

Well, I just put the first batch of parts in the que at my local 3D printer lab. Should have them in a week and a half or so.

Also made these little diagrams from a manual, for my version of the gun.

"Martian Glass" is jut my little addition to the gun's mythos. A very sturdy and tough material, like plexiglass, but made from materials found in the off-world colonies, namely, Mars, which give it a few advantages over earthly counterparts. One is color, two is that, much like copper, through natural touch it releases chemicals into your body that reduce arthritis in the hands.

A fellow over on the Replica Prop Forum (RPF) has informed me that the name Pflager-Katsumata Series D is copy written by another fellow who not only coined the term, but makes his own resin kits of the blaster.

So, after some revisions, it shall be known as the Rademacher-Straub Police Special (or Colonial Enforcer, depending on destination/factory location). Initialed after Ridley Scott.
