| Good Afternoon Gentlemen, Although I've been collecting for 28 odd years now you can never know it all. I have 2 Zodiac Tommy Gunn British Paratroopers in my collection complete with the 60's style rubber maroon beret's. (Something I believe Palitoy should have done along with the 60's blue soldier beret & black Talking Commander beret.) I recently come across the Tommy Gunn style beret in black. It's similar to the Action Man Talking Commander beret but as all the Zodiac rubber berets the badge cavity is inverted. I cannot find any reference or information on this beret in black...any Idea's??

| As you say you can never know it all.
I have no info to offer on the beret, just another question. Which beret came first, VAM or TG? I've always assumed the VAM blue and black berets were made from the original GI Joe Green Beret but did TG do it first?
Also it's weird how the TG beret has the inverted badge cavity especially when you remember the first run of VAM blue berets had upside down badges. Had the badges been originally made for TG? _________________ Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

| Hasbro 1966 G.I. Joe Green Beret – berets were the first followed by the black & blue Palitoy Action Man issue. The first Tommy Gunn badges were cloth for the British Paratrooper (1967 I believe) from Pedigree, the rubber issue berets with inverted cavity were early 70's onwards from Zodiac Toys. Zodiac were not actually a toy manufacturer, they were a UK company that shipped in the line of the 'new' Tommy Gunn sets including the Debenhams exclusive from Hong Kong. The upside down flashes on the original Action Man blue berets were a Hong Kong factory error. These flashes were punched incorrectly by the Hong Kong factory supplier but Palitoy still went with them. I have both versions of this beret, the correct way up & the wrong way up! Palitoy & Pedigree have crossed paths though. The 1st issue Action Man Sterling sub machine gun was a Pedigree mould originally in black or green with a curved magazine clip. I also believe the Action Man Red Devil set was also a concept from Pedigree which Palitoy took over when the Tommy Gunn range failed. | |

the Zodiac TG line is one I would like to learn a lot more about. I found this site a time back, when I was able to score a Tommy Gunn figure. I only have one. In the upper left corner there are links for various sets. http://tommygunncollector.wikifoundry.com/Daryl
