| Wonderful sets Richard I can't remember ever seeing the roman fort , never seen the romans and brit figures in those colours either. Maybe they only came that way with the castle/fort sets. All the figures pictured look very sharp with very little flash. Time to get busy with your paintbrush _________________ “Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.” | |

Time to get busy with your paintbrush I never had these as a kid, only had the Fort Sahara set with the Foreign Legion and Arabs which seems to be the hardest to get now. Yeah I think the colours of the figures were exclusive to these sets, I remember my Ancient Britons being Brick Red colour. The original figures came in either Grey, Dark Brown, Brick Red or Tan. My original Romans were in Grey, I think they also came in the Brick Red as well. I don't think I have the patience (or the skill) that you have for the painting Rich _________________ WHO WATCHES THE VOLGANS... | |

| That`s a much more elaborate set than I remember mine being . Are the figures still made of that oily plastic that the paint will not adhere too properly ? _________________ " There will be no Mercy ." Chip Hazard .

| What a nostalgia rush unwrapping these were... (Thanks Rich! ) All these sets are as indelibly etched into our childhood memories as VAM is! I never had the Romans as a kid but can remember sitting at the kitchen table trying to paint Ancient Britons! ..so many other sets...so cool..must resist! _________________ Life moves pretty fast. | We never had a lot as kids but i spent every spare penny i had on airfix soldiers , inch soldiers i always called them. Most of the stuff i have now are loose figures all piled into boxes which i have picked up here and there. I have also picked up a few other bits on the way this set has a Custer figure which was only released with the playset, not a lot of good imo as they are mostly civil war figures released with a nice box with the Custer artwork. This is very nice, had it a few years now but not done anything wit it as yet. Idon't paint much small stuff these days but still enjoy messing about with my paints, these are the Airfix 7th cavalry 54mm that i have been painting lately, i love these figures. my waterloo set with a few 54mm indians _________________ “Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.” | |

| Beautiful paint work Rich!!! Kinda gives me an itchy paintbrush finger. I really like the look of all of them, but the glossy figures really stand out. Have you done any tutorials? Thanks, Brian | |

| Hello Brian, the glossy figures are very easy to do, just block colour acrylic followed by gloss varnish. I use the water based gloss varnish from the DIY shop so you don't need any fancy stuff. The army in plastic stuff are the same as metal figures only molded in plastic from the same molds, as long as you wash them in soapy water and prime with a plastic primer (Plasti-kote matt is the best) you should not get any problems. Check the range of AIP figures on e.bay there are some lovely sets and a great price. Hope that helps. _________________ “Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.” | |
