The small scale's appeal in a nutshell! Never had this set but I remember the tank traps! _________________ Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

| Nice set! I remember buying bags of highly detailed HO soldiers for 10¢.
This pretty much typifies why the smaller scales were so popular: something like this in 1:32 would be huge. Imagine the size and price of this in 1:6 scale!

Yeah I always preferred the 1/72 to 1/32, more figures per box and bigger battles in a smaller space. Hours of fun! _________________ WHO WATCHES THE VOLGANS...

I'm pretty sure all the 1/32's were just larger scale versions of the 1/72 figures. I do have a few 1/32 figures, I'll dig them out and check. _________________ WHO WATCHES THE VOLGANS...

| Thanks Bri! You've just reminded me of the lay outs I used to do with my Hornby train set and Airfix soldiers. I used to fill open back trucks/carriages with Germans and have allied forces waiting in ambush Hornby was the perfect scale for Airfix 1/72 _________________ WHO WATCHES THE VOLGANS... | |

| Ah yes! Back in the days when you got everything you needed in the one box! No need to buy any "expansion sets", just unpack and play! |

No need to buy any "expansion sets", just unpack and play! Absolutely Barry, those were the days! These Airfix sets were a massive part of my childhood, to a six year old they were huge! So many hours of play with these sets and like you say - everything you needed for a huge battle. I've since picked up a few more sets including another favourite from childhood, Fort Sahara with the Foreign Legion and Arabs (Bedouins) All packed away at the moment as I'm due to move soon but as soon as they are unpacked I'll be setting up some of these sets and get more pics on here. _________________ WHO WATCHES THE VOLGANS...

Those were from the British Commando set Dave, I have very vivid memories of all these figures. I think these figures were loosely based on the Sand Pebbles story. _________________ WHO WATCHES THE VOLGANS...

| Hi Richard That set is great ...and it has the late / 1/32nd scale at 1/72nd scale Germans too. My very early sets were first issue Germans. A bit 'weedy" I thought. I still remember the thrill of being taken in Woolies by my dear old Nan and getting a box of figures.. Later me and my mates seemed to have a huge Napoleonic phase and started to get into "real" war-games ( well a D6 and a 12 inch ruler and simple rules like SMG shoots 3 " , rifle/Musket 6 " .. that kinda thing..) I quickly moved on to 1/32nd scale sets and exited my Airfix phase with the fantastic (imo) 1/32nd scale multipose sets ... Thanks or the trip down memory lane.. | |

As most here already know, I recently moved from acreage and a large house into something much smaller. This necessitated the packing up of all my collection. It is amazing how much you miss having it around and also the surprises you get when you finally manage to unpack. |
