I concur with this assessment! I was just saying on another topic that I was wishing there were a steampunk-specific hints-and-tricks topic on the forum, and now I click through to see this! Cardstock and glue, mostly, eh? How do you get the curve to the brim? How do you create the rivets, or what do you use as rivets? Am I reading that correctly: cocktail stick (toothpick here in the States) to dab on drops of wood glue (which has a bit of body to it so the drops hold their shape)? Coincidentally, I ended up reading just yesterday, while looking for something completely different, about top hats from the 1870s-1890s period, and it was mentioned how top hats from that era have a tapered or "narrow waisted" shape to the crown, which differentiates them from the straight-sided "stovepipe" hats (often described as an Abe Lincoln hat, here in the States) of the 1860s. I believe the narrow-waisted crown survives as the standard top hat shape for formal wear today. _________________ ... DAVE

| Thanks for the nice comments all, you are correct with the glue SCU-HQ and once the hat is assembled you just bend the rim to shape. I will have a look for some small washers tomorrow for the goggles, had probs making them it's not easy cutting them from card _________________ “Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.” | |

| Great costume for the figure, and the "tintype" processing looks quite authentic. _________________ ... DAVE
