Question: Is there some way that you can get the flocking to lie flatter and in different directions as you apply it, in order to get it to sit more naturally like real parted hair and avoid it all seeming to radiate from the one single central explosion point somewhere within the head itself?
I'm hoping to somehow avoid the "fuzz-ball" hair standing on end effect.
Outsourcing flocking is not really viable here so all advice gratefully appreciated.

It's a good question and not one that's easy to answer.
I do all my flocking now also due to outsourcing issues and it's something I've often thought about.

One possible option would be to ditch the electrostatic flocker which charges the flock to stand up.
A puffer bottle produces flatter results but doesn't look so good in my view.

Longer flock than the standard 2mm would be an obvious help.
As it's drying in the epoxy, you might be able to 'style' it as it were with a tootbrush or some such.

Not sure if Hussein (Lookforjoe) is on AMMO is he? If not, check out some of his great flocking posts on AMHQ.

He's even used his own hair in the past I believe.

Brian, (Sparklebudgie) would also be very experienced in these matters also.

Not something I’ve tried or felt the need to try (yet).
Action Burt (Mike) did it quite successfully, look for his rendition of hitler.

I would flock as normal then when it’s setting use a face powder brush (ask the missus!) and gently tease it the way you want it to go.
Just experiment with some damaged heads to get the timings right and don’t forget to post up pictures of your results, good or bad.

Good luck.

I’ve always liked the big hair afro

Just looking back through examples of flocking here on AMMO and noticed THIS  excellent example on Blackbrazen's Brace.
Sincere apologies for using a little of your very fine pic Blackbrazen, but THIS demonstrates almost exactly what I'm talking about.
(One good pic being worth a thousand words.)

Notice how the flock suggests parted hair lying flatter and in different directions away from the part as natural hair would,....rather than that standing up on end effect.
Would you care to pass on any hints on how you achieved this?
Could you just use longer flock and then spray it with hairspray and brush to suit with say a toothbrush or somesuch, hoping the spray will then hold the style?
