Indeed..one of my favourite actors.

Gunfight at the OK Coral is one of my all time favourite films and his portrayal of Doc Holiday is outstanding

My favorite scene from my favorite Kirk Douglas film:

He made it to 103, and remained active for most of those years despite suffering a debilitating stroke more than twenty years ago. Rather than lamenting his passing, I am inspired by his strength, tenacity, and resilience.

103... means that those of us from the GI Joe / Action Man era who may be starting to feel old should realize we've barely hit middle age.

We're ALL Spartacus!

...and don't forget the Vikings!

I remember seeing '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ' at the cinema as a kid (strange a film that was already about 15 years old was on general release). The film blew me away and Douglas stole the show.

RIP  Issur.

Heartily agree with all the comments.
He was truly the last of a golden era.
He wasn't all about the epics and actioners either.
He gave a memorable, sensitive portrayal of tormented artistic genius Vincent Van Gogh in 'Lust for Life' and was simply masterful as Colonel Dax in 'Paths of Glory', trying to defend his men against trumped up charges of cowardice in a puppet court martial.

Farewell Mr Douglas, good fortune on the road.

Antoninus:
Are you afraid to die, Spartacus?
Spartacus:
No more than I was to be born.

His performance as Van Gogh was simply amazing. His physical likeness to the artist being so complete that the actual paintings that were self-portraits needed no adjustments at all. Douglas looked so like the man. A stunning inhabitation of character.

I just watched one of his absolute bombs though, ....."Saturn 3". It's futuristic, and set on one of the moons of Saturn.
For some unfathomable reason Douglas has a lot of nude scenes, (for which the man is far too old), and he's got the MUCH younger Farrah Fawcett as his love interest! She looks gorgeous but couldn't act her way out of a wet paper bag!
It also has Harvey Keitel as a villain and a robot that goes beserk. Now that should make the thing at least watchable, but it's a real stinker.
