COVER: Amazing collection of arcane and cryptic documents on the bulletin board! Love that globe, too! So many intriguing possibilities; what, exactly, is The Commander pondering?
267 - First, the pic is just flat-out freakin' cool! 'Nuff said about that!
Second, interesting that this meeting is inspiring Commander Rivers to revisit something he would prefer to leave in the past, yet something that haunts him constantly. But now he is asking questions... and asking questions about why questions are being left unasked!
I sense that things will become increasingly dangerous for Commander Rivers, and the danger may very well come from unexpected sources!
268 - That is one seriously jacked-up rig! You're pulling out the cool kit for this story!
Why would a senator's son be involved? Unless... the connections went deeper than just the son, you mean???
269 - Love the pic in the second panel, where we can see Commander Rivers... talking on the phone while driving! Normal safety rules do not apply to super-cool secret agents!
Commander Rivers is very good at "segmenting" his thoughts. Time to put the "old" away and focus on the "now."
270 - Excellent posing here, particularly of the Doctor figure.
Flashback to
An Old Face Returns, an earlier story! Now I'm very glad I went back and read that one recently.
And for those of you who have
not yet read
An Old Face Returns, or if you need to refresh your memories:
https://actionmanmobileops.forumotion.co.uk/f94-an-old-face-returns271 - Whaaaat? Oh, wait... the X clone! Nice sense of "surprise" among the characters, expressed through effective posing.
272 - Good depiction of "movement" from panel to panel. The Doctor almost appears to move as he gets up from his seat and joins the discussion. The Doctor asks pertinent questions.
273 - The Doctor is sharp! Already suspecting a weak link, or links, in the security chain! But
who? And
how? And
when? And the big question:
why?274 - Again, I love the sense of movement as the characters pass the mobile phone from one to another. Clear pics with good depth of field. How to you get everything in focus when it appears that the lighting is not particularly bright?
275 - Smooth tie-in to the other parallel storyline:
https://actionmanmobileops.forumotion.co.uk/t11352-bamcomix-presents-hidden-in-the-shadows-chapter-11-a-girl-s-best-friend276 - A couple of nicely composed group photos here, making good use of the office setting. You manage to capture and convey a sense of rising tension here.
277 - More cool Dinosaur Valley settings! Subtle reference to the enhanced abilities of these special agents, in that they have extremely acute hearing. The reference back to an earlier installment, in which the time-altering vegetation was mentioned, offers continuity to the narrative flow - not always easy to achieve when chapters are spaced out by several weeks, or when there are multiple parallel storylines running.
278 - I like the minimalist, military-style dialog here. Regrouping seems like a prudent approach at this point.
279 - Now
this is an
extremely interesting development! The Enhanced Agent, JJ, was selected for this mission partly because of his acceptance of the chain of command. But already he is beginning to resist, and referring to himself as a "superior asset." Is JJ beginning to think that he is
better than the other members of the team? What challenges might this create as the situation unfolds? This appears to me to be an important turn of events, a "significant plot point," if you will.
Plus, look at this pic! JJ has a ferocity in his eyes! It will become increasingly difficult to hold him back.
280 -
Oooh! An artifact discovered!
It would seem that Tami is keeping certain information regarding JJ to herself... for now. But she is most certainly going to keep a close eye on him!
281 - Dynamic poses for a "simple" phone scene! Making good use of that new articulated body!
282 - Bringing in some of the more intriguing espionage details from the parallel storylines, while referencing back to a brief, early scene introducing Connor. Good storytelling style at work here!
Also intriguing: Tibias is certainly keeping a closer eye than usual on this operation. He is being much more "hands on" than usual. What's going on? I'm sure Commander Rivers will soon begin to wonder about that!
Fits nicely with the veiled warning from Professor Champion from Chapter 12:
https://actionmanmobileops.forumotion.co.uk/t11398-bamcomix-presents-hidden-in-the-shadows-chapter-12-dead-ends-tell-no-tales283 - Aha! As Commander Rivers says, things are beginning to make a lot more sense now! Suddenly the "alien artifacts" have become secondary to the chip recovery mission!
The questions The Doctor raised become all the more relevant: what does X want with the artifacts... if, indeed, it is the artifacts he is after? Or... is there something more hidden in the depths of Dinosaur Valley?
Great panel in a great story installment! This was a shocker!
284 - Commander Rivers almost seems like he is
rationalizing, trying to
create a legitimate reason to choose Redbox for this mission. Are conscious forces at work here... or
unconscious forces? Are the present and past colliding in such a way that Commander Rivers could
lose control?Nicely composed "pensive" pic as Rivers thinks hard about his next move.
285 - You're right about that, Jake!
Nobody will be happy about this decision! Indeed, this could undermine the faith of
everyone in your continued ability to lead!
Impressive installment, filled with tension, and raising far more questions than were answered! Excellent cross-references to all the other parallel storylines. Good stuff all the way 'round!
