The closing mechanism is quite ingenious, and looks great!

Thanks, All.

I'm pleased with the way it turned out and feel it adds to the overall look of the Dio.

The closer is a piece of foam core, and a couple of wooden dowels. ;-) It was honestly a last minute idea and add on, but it gives the non-functional glass door a suitably commercial look.

It looks great! Very realistic.

When warmer weather comes, so I can do some painting outside, I've been
planning on trying my hand at making room boxes. And I have wondered...

How does one make door frames and window frames to give them a more
3D look?

Paint your door flat, or simply print out a suitable fancy one in the correct size and stick it to the wall. (Make sure it's a laser print so as to be waterproof if you intend to paint around it.)
Then surround it with flat strips of wood or cardboard as the frame, mitering the corners .
You can also stick finer strips on your door or window for the bars or mullions and around the panels if it's a door to give a more 3D appearance.
Don't forget to make a suitable knob or bar to open the door.

I like to give windows a more open 3D look by making a box-like construction outside the window opening into which you can paste a scene and even a few twigs to represent a tree or other foliage if you so desire.
Face the opening with some transparent stuff you've saved from commercial packaging( you DO save that stuff don't you?) to represent the glass, stick some mullions onto it and make a window frame et voila!

I use basic framing to make the doors and windows appear three dimensional, though keep in mind photography is two dimensional for the most part, so it's about the illusion of three dimensions. I've had good success just cutting an opening and framing it but as in the case with the glass door which I wanted to be removable, I just built it on a piece of poster paper and glued the frame, then glued the edges of the glass to the frame. The door fits close to the wall held in place with a small bit of medical tape. Everything in my set is designed to be easily removed for scene changes as my 3x8 base serves as a 'sound stage'. I have other dios in mind, and designed the set to be flexible to accommodate this.

The window in this older shot is framed and glazed.
