I opened my box of NAM Nurses some weeks back , and some ...well most looked sadly a bit dated . So I am in the process of up grading one or two them , so many nice sculpts out there . So up first is "Ellen " . Along with a few veterans for fun .

So....a nurse who smokes? Well well! I see what you mean about looking a "bit dated" in that last pic. Interesting vintage pieces though.

I’m really liking the look of the NAM Nurses because their outfits are just plain and simple. I’m really liking the group picture.

Great work Chip! She looks terrific! As Barry said, I can kinda see why you are upgraded them. Love the watch from the top pocket!

Me too. I think it was one of the best Nam series ever. And far more accurate than other War Medic types of shows like the oddly more known and far more popular M*A*S*H which IMHO was way overrated.

M*A*S*H* and China Beach cannot really be compared insofar as China Beach was drama exploring little known aspects of the Vietnam War whereas M*A*S*H* was a comedy, set during the Korean War, but really a protest against Vietnam. As that war ended, it became increasingly a vehicle for Alan Alda's overall anti-war political views, and less and less funny. China Beach was not especially political, being more character driven. I agree that it was a lot more realistic. Dana Delany and Robert Picardo were excellent in the show, as were much of the supporting cast,

Realistic or not, you just can't argue with success. M*A*S*H was made 1972 - 1983 and has been in syndication on television ever since, not to mention huge sales on the video tapes and DVDs. It also touched on serious subjects no other show would go near. The finale became the most watched and highest rated single TV episode in US television history at the time with a record breaking 125 million viewers. And it manages to be a comedy, despite being about men having their guts shot out in a foreign war! Something of an achievement in in itself.
China Beach may have been critically lauded but always rated poorly with audiences. The ABC persisted with just four seasons, but even the final season was put on hiatus in 1990 and the finale did not air until 1991. You'd be hard-pressed to find it on air nowadays. Besides, filming a war story in the late 80's was a whole lot easier to be "realistic" than shooting back in the 70's. Being written by a women, China Beach is far more female-focused, who always seemed to have time to be make-up perfect, and in full lip-stick rather than attending to their duties. I agree with Gary, the two shows can hardly be compared.
