Subject: Operation Varsity, March 1945 Thu Mar 24, 2022 2:40 pm
24 March 1945: in the initial stages of Operation Varsity members of the 17th airborne division regroup after safely landing in their glider. Here a battalion XO and sergeant wielding a bazooka pause before seeking out German targets. The glider pilot has his Thompson ready as despite the official rule of evacuating glider pilots from the combat area, he will almost certainly be thrust into action, especially with the high casualty rate among junior officers.
