Fantastic photos.
But I'm wondering, where did you find 1/6 bagpipes?
Did you make those?

Yes I made the bagpipes , there not that great , we’re made quickly so strategically kept them on the edge of shots…

Dean, I have to say that you are one of the very few I've seen that can make those "eagle-eyes" figures look SO convincing. They work a treat in your set ups, being seriously watchful. So well done!

Yes they do. I have several and to my eye they do look a bit more convincing than the startled effect some of the vintage Joes have. The eye opening being smaller for a start.

The mams eyes definitely look better than the “ sat on a pointy sick” eagle eyes ones….. but I love the startled look of some of them…. The eagle eye are definitely my favourite action man….don’t know why ..because I had mainly the non eagle eyes when I was a kid…

Shame you have to dismantle the dio , great set of photos , and Barry is right about how you photograph your Eagle Eye figures , think it helps they are all looking the same way as they likely would in the given situation . Great imagination including the Scotsman too .

I’m really liking the behind the scenes picture Rustygun. That’s good to hear that you may keep it for a bit longer.

I wonder if pipers in battle carried a patch kit in case the air bladder got... punctured?

What is your tip for keeping those figures standing upright?

Great dio. When the legend becomes fact, you print the legend. Photographic evidence shows Lovat wearing a battledress jacket on D-Day and in his memoirs he states he carried an American M1 carbine. However "The Longest Day" has him dressed as he is in this photo, and carrying a hunting rifle, supposedly a Winchester .45-70, which will easily take down a charging buffalo. Notwithstanding, my Time Life books on WWII also have him wearing a turtleneck and carrying a Winchester that day....
On issue of Bill Millin however, there seems to be no argument. He did play the pipes as the Commandos advanced. I can almost hear "The Black Bear," playing in the distance, audible over the din of battle.

No tips really….I’ve never had much of a problem making them stand …must have the knack… In the sand I’ve used here , it’s quite easy as you can dig there boots in a bit which helps…but on a flat surface I just fiddle about until they stand up……..all very scientific….

I think ..as you said he did in fact wear battle dress and a m1 carbine …..but I went with the white polar neck as in the movie ..as a bit more of an impact in photos….

Never thought about that…..I think if I was marching along with him belting that noise out , I would puncture it myself….

Outstanding stuff Dean . Lord Lovat is a great bash. The Piper is a great one too. Wouldn't mind seeing a how to tutorial on how you made the bagpipes.

Thanks for the comments……. Didn’t take any photos of the bagpipes when I made it ….to be honest it’s not that great close up.. I just sowed a bit of tartan cloth I had in a basic bagpipe shape …stuffed it with some packing material and glued the pipes into it …..the pipes were old bits of plastic tube with a couple of washers on each ….. But they look ok from a certain angle ..
