Very cool. I was going to make a comment about the DC-3's / C-47 being a bit dated, but then again, there are a lot of them still in service, especially in remote areas, including parts of the US Southwest.

It would have been seven or eight years ago, but I talked to a relatively young pilot (late 20s I'd say) in Hawaii at an air show who was the pilot of a DC3 that was used in regular cargo service between Oahu and the outer islands (Maui, Kauai, Lanai). They had the plane at the air show, open for display. It was just an empty cargo hauler, but quite interesting. I remember he said it was easy to fly, kind of boring actually, "like driving a bus," but that it was still well suited for certain types of cargo and certain cargo runs, and very dependable.

Plus, my story segments are largely set in sort of a nebulously semi-outdated time period..

DC-3's will be flying forever. I can remember a time in the late 70's when they were still seen and heard (distinctive engine sound) here in Montreal.  There is an airline here in Canada called Buffalo Airlines, that still has a lot of them in cargo service and a few in passenger service.

excellent stuff Dave! Looks like their expedition is well under way! i really liked the take of using film footage to document the teams progress as they journey further down into the unknown!

Bravo Dave bravo! I really really enjoyed reading this chapter. I think it totally having the pictures in black and white film footage that documented the teams progress really really worked well for me. Looking forward to reading more.

Great installment as always, love every page of it. Still dont know what to think about the whole "its all underground" stuff, seeing as a Hollow Earth Thing would be kind of absurd, but oh well.

Yes, well... a "real" underground cave system would be pitch black, and even flaming torches wouldn't be very effective. This is a problematic scenario for which I have not yet come up with a solution, or at least, not a solution with which I am completely satisfied.

There are other issues with "exploring a cave" that are highly unrealistic here... but I hope to address some of those in the next exciting chapter!

I think I mentioned it before, but the best way to solve that, would be to have some sort of gateway there, part of some alien ruins that, that is a portal to the Dinosaur Valley and the Valley is located "elsewhere".
