A Christmas Present To Me From Me

I noticed this guy on eBay and won him for a good price. I thought that he'd make a nice easy rescue and be a great addition to my collection. He looked to be an early painted rivet Action Man, with a good clean head, but was missing the lower legs, feet and hands.


I dug out a bag of vintage GI Joe parts, as his body looked to be a mix of Palitoy and Hasbro parts, in particular the arms and legs.


I found a nice pair of hard hands, feet and lower legs.


Then I noticed that his eyebrows were in need of a makeover.


So, I gave them a little bit of a touch up.


Next, a uniform, and after a bit of trial and error I settled on a sailor look, adding the vintage shoulder holster so that he has a weapon.


Finally, I found a repro dog tag for him. I think he's turned out well, what do you think?

He looks great! You certainly have a knack for spotting great deals on ebay!

Nice restoration! A great gift to yourself, and to the entire hobby by bringing a damaged, neglected figure back to full fighting form!

I think you would be exceptionally lucky to pick one up for that these days at £20 , I think you can double that plus for a decent one eBay .

I got this one for 20 quid, plus postage...

It’s the mainstay of my collection, just love resto’s like this.

UPDATE:

I have been thinking putting a French Resistance set together for a long time, but always put off by the vintage outfit of black roll-neck jumper and jeans. So, I thought I'd put a kitbash together, so at least I can complete the SOTC collection (kind of)… the beret from my childhood collection, fits this paint head perfectly (now called Pierre)… thought I'd give him the clip together luger case, as the resistance worked somewhat incognito.



Trouble is he can't read the instructions...

Late to the party on this thread but great job on the repair; and the assignment to the French resistance. He looks more accurate now; but Hasbro was probably making something out of imagination than historical events. They also needed parts to be reused; so the sailors jeans and the turtleneck sweater that would later go to the aquanaut.

Nice work on the restoration and those eyebrows look spot on the Navy kit looked great as does the FFI French Resistance bash
