Most people simply leave comments on photos or in response to other comments.

You can send a "Private Message" (known as a PM or DM) by:

1. Click on the username of the person. That will open the user's profile page.
2. At the top of the profile page, there are a list of options, including words like Profile, Statistics, Friends, etcetera. Click on the one that says Contact.
3. Among other information, you should see two options: Send eMail or Private Message. eMail (not enabled for every user) will send a message to the user's email address.
