Part 1 ..the retreat The German army is in retreat, trying to get through the falaise pocket. They are relentlessly pursued by the allied armies.. A British patrol is searching through a village for stragglers… But are they alone..?
Someone is watching in the shadows…
The German advance party let the British go ..they now know the village is safe and can get the rest of the stragglers through in the morning…
“Wot iz zat noise…”
Part 2 to come shortly…
The set up in my garage…
Thought a lot about wether to do this in black and white or colour… So decided to show a few in black and white..

Very cool Dean, you've not only created a superb diorama, but you've also created an almost eerie atmosphere too with the shots. It looks massive in the pics, but having built a few dios myself too, I know that is not always the case. Really impressed mate, looking forward to part two

After seeing this story myself I just had to show my dad who is a fan of WW2 stuff. He thought every shot was awesome, but with a story line that made you wanting more. He loved how the 1/6 buildings and the demolition of war was so realistic looking.

Whoa! The expressive manner in which each image and each posed figure contributes to the visual impact is superb! A masterful series of images!

Great images!
So much going on when the Germans come out. I like the wagon with the wounded. Did you make the streetlight? May I ask how you did the spotlight on the jeep?

Thanks dal for the comments…..there’s no camera trickery the set was massive…… The table that the set sits on is in 3 parts ..a kitchen work top bench and then two other ply sheets wedged in together on front of that , with two legs to hold it. All up….

Very kind words … took a while to put it all together ( building wise ) …then took me about 4 hrs to photograph it ..then another couple of hours sorting out all the photos ….

I made the wagon, thought it would bring a bit of realism to the dio. I made both the street lights out of wooden balustrade spindles , one was supposed to look like it had the top blown off and the other had a shot glass and a little torch in the top.. The spotlight on the jeep is another small torch with a bit of hessian around it as to discussed it….as simple as that…

Far to much to take in in one viewing the detail and extras are awesome . The colour photos work much better in my opinion . Totally get the hours spent on such things , but your time was well spent and well worth it . I like how you finished off part one , with your amazing tank coming , we know there is trouble ahead . Great work indeed , I will definitely be back to look at this again .

Also interesting: at this point in the story, the Germans are actually the "sympathetic" characters. They're just a group of guys who have been through the wringer and are now trying to get home.

Very evocative photos! I’ve read accounts of the German escape from both sides. Terrifying. Allied fighter bombers (rocket-firing typhoons mostly) would destroy vehicles at either end of the column, then would rake up and down. Some brutal fighting by Canadian and Polish forces at the pincers.
