Subject: Dreadnok Ripper Mon Jul 01, 2024 6:29 pm
I think it was 1986 when the Joe line introduced Zartan and the Dreadnoks. There were three Dreadnoks, but apparently only one, Ripper, was made in different versions. There were later Dreadnoks, but again only Ripper was apparently ever made in newer versions in the 1/18 line. On the left is the original version of Ripper, on the right is a later version that I believe the 1/6 version is apparently based on. Photos from yojoe.com.
The original version had a "jaws of life" tool. I'm not sure of the proper name for it, that's what I've always heard it called. The file card from the 1/6 version.
This figure is marked as part of the Valor vs Venom line. I don't have a copy of that animated movie, but I have seen it. I don't recall this character being in it. The figure came on a blister card, inside the blister at his feet was this small card.
The 1/6 version has a missile launcher.
The missile launcher has three positions for firing. The "sight" can be moved quickly from the top position to the lower position firing all three missiles quickly. Otherwise pulling it down in three click stops it will fire one at a time. The "sight" is the orange tab.
Besides the missile launcher the figure also has a machete and pistol in a chest rig, which helps the molded on shirt not look as bad.
The figure has a removable hat and glasses. The cap has a "sort of" look of the Zartan likeness, the figure also has a Cobra logo "tattoed" on his left upper arm which I forgot to photograph. These three photos show the difference.
I hope I haven't wasted anyone's time with this post.
The text on that original file card is hilarious! I cannot imagine any toy line today creating a character bio like that, with so many references to violence!

But you noticed he likes grape soda and chocolate donuts? The old Joe cartoon the Dreadnoks liked those.

Very cool figure, Daryl, did they make the others. and do you own them? I used to have these guys in 3 3/4" scale (my sone owns the, now). They were always great fun!

I have the three original Dreadnoks, along with others made after them. My 3 3/4" are buried in the far corner of my extra room. That's why I post photos from yojoe.com, it's a lot easier than trying to dig them out.
As far as I know the Ripper character was the only one that was made in different versions, aside from Zartan. And the two are the only ones made in 1/6 scale. The other two original Dreadnoks were Buzzer and Torch. I have a couple of figures I think will work for those characters, I just need to figure out how finish them. Torch had a cutting torch, which I can't find in 1/6. I have a small chainsaw for the Buzzer figure, but I would like one a bit bigger and more intense looking. I'm looking at variations, like the Ripper figure, for the other two in 1/6 scale. I've always really liked the original three Dreadnoks. Although Monkey Wrench was pretty cool. I never really got into Zartan.

I think the 1/6 version of Dreadnok Ripper looks very cool. My favourite bit is actually his machete and pistol in a chest rig. It’s a pity that his tank top is molded plastic . With his cap and sunglasses he looks like he should be a trucker. With his bandana he looks like a wrestler.

I didn't think of that, but yeah, a trucker and a wrester. Maybe he and Mindbender should have a match.
