Hello folks,The 1966 GI Joe Sea Sled that I have was missing a few parts..What really was bugging me was it was missing the control handles...So before I tried to fix the broken spear gun,I decided to make something up..1966 Sea Sled fix Space+Capsule+Damage+0021966 Sea Sled fix Space+Capsule+Damage+0041966 Sea Sled fix Space+Capsule+Damage+006I went to my junk draw and found this black plastic girder...It was just a bit wider than the rectangle holes on the nose hood.Measured the support holes inside of the beam and they were 3'16"So I went and found a 3/16" dowel from one of my model ship kits..With a little filling and sanding cut it to the right length,it fit nicely.. 1966 Sea Sled fix Space+Capsule+Damage+0101966 Sea Sled fix Space+Capsule+Damage+013Cut the dowel to length,a little sanding....1966 Sea Sled fix Space+Capsule+Damage+0151966 Sea Sled fix Space+Capsule+Damage+017I found some black paint, fixed the broken spear gun and here is where I'm at...Now I have to find the rear depth plane fin and a few decals....Walter1966 Sea Sled fix Space+Capsule+Damage+0191966 Sea Sled fix Space+Capsule+Damage+024

That's a great fix mate! Unless you really looked you wouldn't know! I like making bits for repair as you know rather than source replacements..

Walter, you're in the eviable position of having a sea sled with an intact window shield. That's the part that is usually missing.

Thanks Doug you are right about the windshield...I was surprised when I seen the auction that it was still there..Chris from Red venom Repros has them as well as patches of pride "I think" but they aren't cheep...Well the enevitable happened...I knew it was going to..so I was not surprised..The slightest bump and the broken spear gun fell off...You just cannot glue these soft plastics....I was so confident that I could not fix it,that I did not take a pic of it broken...The break was at an angle so my thoughts of drilling a pilot hole in both parts and having match in the end was very bleak. I found this 3/4 inch screw and cut off the head..Eyeballed each part and drilled two pilot holes...screwed it into the base and threaded on the front part of the spear gun.....HOLY Cow it matched!! Man I don't want to call it skill....Just plain luck !! Anyway its not going any where and the fix has saved me $9.00...Go figure....Cheers Walter 1966 Sea Sled fix 0101966 Sea Sled fix 0071966 Sea Sled fix 006

Nice fix on the control handles. It always amazes me when people show repairs or scratch build stuff. One minute it looks like a mess, like you've just stuck bits of plastic and wood together (which you usually do with a scratch build!) and then you add a bit of paint and suddenly it transforms into something which looks brilliant!
