Does anyone have any suggestions on what is the best things to use to make scale telegraph poles?

Measure a real one as best as possible, convert measurements to scale, start looking for parts, it should be an easy one.

Real poles are usually about 18 inches in diameter, so you're going to need something about 3 inches in diameter, that's a fair sized lump of wood

Here in the UK (and also on the Continent I believe) they are more usually about 10-12 inches in diameter.

Another useful online Scale Converter can be found here

It even has a step by step procedure for converting BETWEEN different scales without going through 1:1. ie converting from 1/76th to 1/6th direct. Very Happy

Don't forget though whatever diameter at the base they all will have a natural taper.
