| These figures are great, aren't they? I think I've got most of them and the clothes are useful too, so I picked some up from boot sales, etc., for the extras I wanted.
I've had a bit of a problem with some of them, though. The Doctor in Spacesuit, the Ood and the Clockwork Man all have had 'plastic ooze' from some parts. These are mainly gloves/hands. feet, boots and helmet pipes on the spacesuit, plus the Ood's 'fronds'. This shows up as a grey slime on the affected parts and it is the very devil to remove!
I've used a washing up liquid solution and as lot of rubbing, which removed it after about three goes. The paint underneath seems fine and it doesn't look like the slime is coming back, so a good result.
What this is and if it will affect the plastic long term remains to be seen...
Some of the 5" figures are also affected and a wash seems to fix them up OK too. Not all examples of the same figure are affected either.
My guess is that it's possibly some mould release agent that wasn't cleaned off properly, or a plasticizer from the soft and bendy parts. I'm bracing myself to scratch build replacements if it should be the latter...
Still very nice figures though and you are right about the Doctor being one of the best! | |
