| Further to some discussions we've had on chat lately I thought I'd post some pics of my first and so far only attempt at VAM tailoring! A little number I knocked up in 1985 would you believe! During my six months of VAM collecting back then. I unpicked an old jacket to make the pattern. The material is an old bed sheet, the green dye was from 'Woolies' and the camo is material paint from a craft shop applied using a stencil I made. I did try a more complex camo with light and dark brown as well as black but I never got around to using it. Cuffs and pockets are there..even if a but rough. All hand stitched. Originally I had big plans about squad building but all the trials and tribulations, and sore fingers, involved in making this one meant it ended up a one off exclusive! ..but never mind the quality, feel the length, a lovely bit of smutter!! _________________ Life moves pretty fast. All pretty self explanatory except I made this 28 years ago so there's probably better acrylic paints available now for the cammo. Also something I found out about the cammo pattern is that different colours often overlap so you'll need a different stencil for each colour. At the AM study day Bob Brechin said when making VAM clothes it was easier to sew the open sleeve to the jacket and then sew up the sleeve, but I remember when I made mine I had the sleeve sewn up and on my finger like a finger puppet when I attached the jacket. _________________ Life moves pretty fast.
