I was very tempted with this. I remember my brother who is ten years older than me having a similar set. Though only £65 just didn't have the spare money. Seller said they had tested it and all was working though surely one car was way faster than the other lol

"Scalextric Scalextric!" Ah, those classic adverts around Christmas time  Very Happy

I remember that set, they're 'ARROW' cars, I've got a sky blue one with wider wheels (Scalletti Arrow) , it races like a dream.
I've masses of them high speed banked corners, but only the vintage cars work on it correctly.

SCX is my fave brand now, I'm not keen on the modern scalextric stuff - I hate the magnets and the 'Mabuchi' small can motors, they have far too much 'rpm' and are hard to keep slotted when the magnets are removed ( I race all my cars non magnet with added weight, just like back in the day) My favourite modern motors are the SCX ones, they are reminiscent of the classic 'Johnson 111' Scalextric (E9) motor   Very Happy

its a nice set Mark but in my opinion overpriced - early 70's marked the decline in the quality of sets and cars being produced

The sticker sheets can be picked up mint for about £3

If it had been around £35 I would have said go for it, if it was the set you rememberd from your childhood

my two favourite cars back in the 70's - all my SCX was given away so in the process of replacing all the cars I had - got the ferrari last weekend at the NSCC swapmeet in MK to add to the lotus I picked up on ebay late last year

lovely to have them back together again

Woo Hoo. Yep they are the ones and he also had an older Lotus before the wing was used and a lotus cortina that came in kit form, though not sure if that was actually scalextric or if he converted it. These are great Paul. If I had more space I would be very tempted to start collecting:-)

dont Mark Shocked

Its another slippery slope mate

as with VAM, originally wanted to get all the cars I had back in the 70's - then extended the scope to include all the cars I WANTED back in the 70's , now its all cars released before 1980!

even picking up rare Spanish cars - basically the Geypermen of the SCX world - now  lol!

I can't go down the scalextric route Paul. Actually getting non pretty well with my wife at the moment lol. Computer Battleships and crossfire is as far as I dare push it.

Fantastic to see it though. Would have been late 1970's when my cousins had a huge set with grandstands and lap counter. I was stunned when I saw it as you could also race four cars round their track. Sadly they were the wealthy side of the family lol

vintage scalelextric 1601504_10152213914698586_1254641603_n_zps2111d74c

That's practically the exact set I had as a kid! The track and clip on crash barriers, the green wedges,,,even the little jar of oil. (sigh!)

I had to give it to my little brother. A few months later when I visited my dad I found what was left of it scattered around the back garden!! Evil or Very Mad

It was around that time he wanted my Action Man collection too! Like that was ever going to happen!!

lucky escape with the VAM SKJ

the set in the photos dates from around 1966, if that helps with seeing if this was the one you had -

if not let me know when you got yours and I will give you a rough idea of which sets it could have been

agree on the oil - the one in my set even still has the wax seal on the stopper I love you

cheers

Paul.

if things are well with the wife, Mark definitely suggest you stay away from the SCX!

i now have all the buildings from the 60's & 70;s range

will set them up for a photo shoot just for you - may take a while as I am away with work for a while from next week and still a lot to sort out - also need to ge the loads of stand figures painted for the full effect

4 track racing was a dream for me as well - need the tricky to find outer curves which i am slowly tracking down

Nice set! Have the tyres gone hard yet? I remember having a '50' set back in the day with C81 & C82 cars, they had the RX  junior formula motors (1966 I think?).

I got this small bundle at a boot sale back in 2012 for £9, the track cleaned up nicely. This set gets played with regularly (fast sidways fun on the corners!)..

vintage scalelextric 01%20JPEG%20WEB%20FINAL%20TOGO%20AC%201000X%20BOOTY%20FIND%20SCALEXTRIC%2016-9-2012_zpsbf1376b4
I don't see green track about much these days..

This was the condition of the minis when I first got them, they've now been cleaned up and had new parts fitted...

Hi Mark,

This classic track is certainly green, and not very common to find these days. Originally the green track was meant for the horse racing sets but was later used for the 'Mini Rally Cross' Sets (sometime in the 1990's?) which I believe this set is from. It may be a 'Toys R us' exclusive?. I haven't had my scalextric books & catalogues out for ages, so I can't give the Cat. number and the year of release for certain. The horse racing sets weren't very popular and didn't sell well, so they can be considered quite rare, and definitely worth looking out for.

You should definitely look out at boot sales and jumble sales for Scalextric, it's usually found for under £20 a set, you may be able to haggle the price down to a fiver (£5) like my cousin normally does, he even got a complete 'Ford Sierra' set for £3 once  Shocked. I've been collecting slot cars for a second time now for over 14 years  Very Happy

I've taken some photos of a few of my mixed cars. I will post later today (new seperate post) Smile
Slot car racing is a passion of mine  Wink

Catch you later Smile
