| My latest figure, an impulse buy from US ebay. An early 'Eye Liner' GI Joe I'm sure someone like Joe90 would be able to accurately date this figure by the eyeliner and painted rivets but I'm pretty sure it's the oldest Joe I own! I haven't decided what to kit him out in yet but I think he'll end up as a classic action soldier or Marine. _________________ Life moves pretty fast. | Very nice! Check out his butt... Go on, I know you want to. It will be marked TM as opposed to R. The TM mark, along with the mild pinhead, caused from the shrinking of the plastic, are indications of his early age. He's a late 1964 G.I. Joe. The very early 1964 guys had baby feet and slotted shoulders/neck. The slotted shoulders of very early 1964 G.I. Joes is the reason why I believe that the slotted shoulders of the Star Scheme VAM are old stock bought from the USA.

| Nice looking veteran, Steve! Kit the figure as a 'Basic Soldier' with cloth cap and rubber boots, definitely! That stress crack needs sorting out soon _________________ clivvers - saviour of the huMAM race @ MAMageddon 2009 - 2099 @ clivvers MAM Nation:

Thanks for the info joe , my figure matches your description with the slotted shoulders . I didn't realise how much smaller the heads are !

I didn't realise how much smaller the heads are ! Is your a ™ stamped butt G.I. Joe or a Star Scheme VAM? The earliest G.I. Joes actually had large heads -- maybe bigger even than the 1968 head sculpts. The Hong Kong producer of the heads was inconsistent with the amount/quality of plasticizer used in the recipe and that affected the shrinkage rate. Here's the difference. Note the early eyeliner paint on these figures in a light brown. You will see large, extremely spongey head sculpts... Heads that have shrunk a little bit and are often mistaken for the 1965 HardNoggin. The pulling up where neck and post meet is an easy indicator... Heads that have really shrunk... By 1965 the recipe was stabilized and the heads didn't shrink. And only the upper eyelid was lined The 1965 HardNoggin (I've often heard it called the first run VAM head sculpt) is somewhat smaller than an intact 1964 SpongeHead and a 1968 SoftHead.

| I was searching eBay more out of interest than a purchase, but once I found this one, I had to buy it . It was £42 including postage. | |

| Very nice, Jet! Does he have a slotted neck?
He's got a nicely shaped head. It has shrunk somewhat but retained the proper dimensions. And no stress cracks!
