| ..finally getting around to a project I have wanted to do for the longest time. Build a backdrop of a structural facade. I decided to make one of them a little depth so some figures and details could be done inside. a few details... framework of furring strips from Lowes, 0.86 cents each, used about 8 of them. floral mounting panels from Michael's 12x36 inches at around $6.00 each, the most expensive parts of this. Glued the panels to the framework with caulking gun. Used a big bucket of joint compound left over from another job, couple coats, sanded and primed. Then sprayed on coat of texture spray from Lowes, few dollars a can, forgot the cost. let it dry and prime again. Then a top coat of paint from my stockpile. Actually, I had some of those 4 oz. sampler colors from a previous project and they worked great, plenty left over to paint them. One bldg is "sand storm" tan, the other is "blanched Pear" a very light pale yellow. now the hard part, windows and doors... I'm a little stumped on the materials for the windows and doors. If I had a table saw I could rip a bunch of strips from scrap. I think if I try to buy basswood at the shops it could get expensive. I have some styrene panels I may use for doors. Still hoping for ideas. Thanks for looking. | |

| This is great, I've used dolls house windows although a smaller scale they make great small windows. You can also smash the plastic glass and leave the bits scattered for bomb damage effect. _________________ The collector formally known as Blue Pants Man | |

| amazing stuff Brian!! Top work indeed. As for windows nd doors, when I built my study, I used small picture frames ?? quite cheap to pick up and all the joints are already made. for my doors i used 3 layer ply wood, easy to work with, if you wanted to add panels, you could cut strips from balsa wood and build up the frame work? once it was painted, you would never know?, I hope this helps I shall look forward to future updates my friend, as it looks totally amazing!! _________________ | |
