| That's a 'Big Jim' Ralph. Sold as 'Mark Strong' in the UK. At 8 inches tall he's shorter than a Redbox so nothing for Tom to worry about! _________________ Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. | |

| Its good to see Action man , Gi Joe and his cousins getting international acknowledgement for their place as an iconic toy that spanned three decades. |

It's the influence of Mattels' 'Big Jim'. That figure came in a pair of shorts as standard! _________________ clivvers - saviour of the huMAM race @ MAMageddon 2009 - 2099 @ clivvers MAM Nation:

| Very nice mate, made the whole trip worthwhile!
Interesting mix of figures they have in there, you could have given advice to the curators about what they were displaying! _________________ WHO WATCHES THE VOLGANS...

| Wow, what a pleasant surprise this must have been. Great find Steve and thanks for all the pics! Hey, they have an IU cheerleader Barbie! Notice they put Trump in with the Barbies and not AM. I'd say somebody at that museum is having fun setting up these displays. My guess is they displayed the AM's in their boxers to show the articulation...not sure why the Barbies were shown in their undies as they have no articulation, but I'm not complaining... Brian | |

He likes the older (1950's) woman does he? She has over a decade on him but I'm sure he'll make a great toy boy! _________________ Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I really really love this bald guy with the chest tattoo. These two girl dolls give the creeps A LOT, most the girl on the left. _________________ I’m Dedicated to serving Professor Gangrene as One of His Loyal Minions.

| Ackie, There's a definitely a similarity between the 'Big Jim and friends' figure and Dal's figure (beard and happy looking eyes) The female doll on the left has an evil grin, sunken dark eyes, and some wicked looking raised eyebrows _________________ clivvers - saviour of the huMAM race @ MAMageddon 2009 - 2099 @ clivvers MAM Nation: | |

Those Big Jim's were from a range called Wolf P.A.C.K produced long after 'Mark Strong' the UK version had vanished from the toy shops! http://www.big-jim.eu/bigjim_pack.htmlAlso memorable for the great Jack Kirby art they used! _________________ Life moves pretty fast. | I've seen that artwork before, it's the type of classic/vintage style i like, it reminds me of the good days of comics I'll check out that Big Jim site again, thanks for the link. _________________ clivvers - saviour of the huMAM race @ MAMageddon 2009 - 2099 @ clivvers MAM Nation:

It's the full page ad that appeared in US comics in 1975 to launch the Wolf P.A.C.K. A few comic book artists did do work for toy companies, Kurt Schaffenberger of Lois Lane fame did some GI Joe manuals for example, but I think this is the only one Jack Kirby did. It's right when he left DC to return to Marvel so maybe he was 'between assignments' and took on a quick commission. _________________ Life moves pretty fast. | Some of the Wolf Pack vehicles were recycled into Mattel's money making 1/6 "Action Figure" line: Take the "lazers" out and give it a paint job: This wasn't the only example. Notice any similarities between these two trucks? -Nate

| Very intresting info, Nate It was a smart move by Mattel to save a bit of money. If only Mattel could release Big Jim again, but upscaled to 12", or they could use Max steel's body with an upscaled 'Big Jim' head sculpt, that would be so good! _________________ clivvers - saviour of the huMAM race @ MAMageddon 2009 - 2099 @ clivvers MAM Nation: | |
