Subject: Preserving a frog man wet suit. Sun Dec 30, 2012 8:51 am
I finally got one of these sets the other day and is apparently a vintage one which is supposed to be better than the 40th remakes. Yet I am still dubious about them as I know from experience they can harden up and split or even worse melt onto the vam. So does anyone have any ideas on how to look after them. I know using talc is supposed to help and I plan on using a spare dsd suit as an undergarment to help keep the plastic away from the rubber but any other advice regards to protecting the wet suit will be greatly appreciated many thanks as always.

Hi Phil I am no expert but I have heard that keeping a small pot of water close to the suit when on display helps keep the moisture in the air around it and so keeps the suit supple! I'm not sure where I read this but I'm sure other members will elaborate on this.

Cheers Ross I forgot that tip especially as my underwater explorer has a cup of water next to him

I asked this question of the plastics preservation specialist at the V&A Action Man day. It's difficult to preserve rubber, but it helps if you can seal it from the air and keep it away from daylight and temperature variations.

Thanks I do have a spare display box so will probably put it in that minus the head piece I think it is a fantastic piece of kit to look at just too bad they could not find a way of keeping it like that
