The early morning sun was just taking off the early morning dew when Cpls Fraser and McCloud address the Training Squad.
Cpl Fraser: " Ok fella's Just two things left. This Assault course. Its Individual effort set off at timed intervals we do expect you to help each other out at any tricky bits"
Cpl McCloud : " Simple as , fellas, simple as ! Packs on . Off for the arial confidence, back on for the final push.
Cpl Fraser -" Lets get to it Then Colour Hart will be on the Pull up station and Captain Gaunt at the Final 18" wall."
First Obstacle: The Slalom Course. Nathan Blythe is last to set off at 30 second intervals .
He is mid 70's fuzz head . Rebuilt from a "spares or repair" bundle.Like the rest of the squad his VAM adventure are lost in the mist of time. Since joining the Munrovians he has proved to be a stoical and reliable soldier.
Second Obstacle: The 10 inch wall.
Cpl Fraser beckons to Blythe as the team work starts to kick in.
Alf Tupper bounds over the wall .As a squad leader he knows he must set a good example. Alf was part of the Mid 80's car boot recruitment drive. He is a true Cheshire thru an thru- "heart of Oak!"
Charlie Topbloke starts to get to pull himself over the wall. Charlie came in the 2016 "action Man bundle" recruitment drive. Still with his original elastics and a set of dragon grippers sets him apart from the other blokes. He want his status back as an Action Soldier of the Mid 70's the Golden Era of VAM.
Obstacle 3 : The Crawl net; Core strength and good hip rivet are called for .
Alf observes Mark Power making his way through.
Mark emerges from the net. He knows if he is ever to be accepted by Hank or Joe he needs to prove that he is made of sterner stuff than his brother Mike. He can never forgive the Hasbro designers for doing such a rubbish design job… but hey you can only live the VAM life you are given. He is determined to rescue the Power name.
Obstacle 4 : The pull up station
Squad leader Dave Henderson arrives . Colour Hart demonstrates the core hold .
Dave reaches for the bar . The Pack and those 25 Grammes ar starting to kick in on his shoulders. He is forever grateful for the Treatment he received in the VAM Hospital. - arriving with his elastic shot he underwent a total restring. Once recovered and with a new pair of grippers he soon proved his leadership qualities. His history is unknown, but he is determined to take his new opportunity in the ranks of the Munrovian fight back.
Obstacle 5 : The Ariel confidence station.
Cpl McCloud looks up at Smudger Smith. McCloud is proud of these guys . As a EEBP he is literally made of different stuff. However he admires these early 70's guys . They are made of tough stuff. They can bounce back if they fall. He knows if he does the same, slack hip joints or major surgery for snapped knee joint await.
Smudger , having dropped off his pack , and climbed up the staggered nails ,reaches out with the famous Action Man Clothes line grip.
Smudger is a veteran of VAM adventure in the south. Entering into in to active service in the Portsmouth area. A cheeky chappy . He will always have grumble.
Smudger " Cor Blimey I aint got no head for heights !"
Obstacle 5 : Hurdles .
Don Strong drops off the clothes pole . His hip joints are on fire . but he picks up his rucksack and heads for the Hurdles with gritted teeth, determined to finish and claim a Blue Beret and enter the ActionYankee hall of fame.
Obstacle 6 The 18 inch wall.
In the lead Tony Scott hears Captain Gaunt shouts of encouragement as he heads for the famous 18 inch wall and the finish line.
A champion VAM from the NE , his new recruitment to the Munrovain ranks has given him a new lease of life. equipped with his new grippers he is determined to get over the wall.
At the Wall Captain Gaunt sees Strong & Scott help each other over the wall . He knows these guys will make it and make all the time he and Colour Hart have put in worth it !
Action Man gold star !
