Found this childhood Joe item recently...

Found my childhood USN life ring!
My brother lives in the house where I grew up and he wanted me to help
him put a belt on his old heating furnace recently... While looking for tools in
a drawer in the basement I found the life ring!
Been wanting one and almost bought one over the past few months but
never pulled the trigger... Now I know why...

Okay Jim, what we want here is a moment by moment account of this discovery...

...there you are, searching for that left-hand monkey wrench to replace the belt on the furnace...you're getting frustrated looking for tools and finally try a drawer...and there it is! Your long lost rescue ring! And it's not even filthy, scratched and damaged from 40 years in that drawer...

My brother is the type that left some parts of the house basically the same after my grandparents
passed away in 1986 (pap) 1987 (Gram) so I've done a few searchs of the house for
Gijoe items over the past 3 years. But never searched much through the basement
so need to do that soon again...    

Actually the life ring was a bit dirty but after a few wipes with water and Dawn dish liquid
the little bit of crude crud came off... Had to be careful to not wet the string though...  
Nope there was no scratches on the ring... The drawer had many metal washers etc, in it and
pieces of itchy wall insulation in it...Strange items throughout that drawer. Actually not many tools...


The basement is still just like my deceased Pap left it... Been a long while since I was in
the basement so many drawers got looked through that day...  And cabinets...

My Gram must of hid some Gijoe items from me because when I found them they looked new...
Like my ski patrol ice Ax was brand new when I found it...lol

That heating furnace was there when I was a wee lad so its 55+ years old..

Hey Bri...

I found this ski Patrol ice ax a couple years ago at my old homestead...
Brand new condition so I'm guessing my gram hid it so I didn't
poke my eye out or something...

Found some Medic crutches in bad shape but also found some crutches that looked new at my
homestead in the past.




I Had to buy a USN Breeches Buoy outfit and harness because my childhood
uni was hard as a rock and harness was in pieces...

Items I had to buy:


Found TWO of these Laughing Harry Robots at my homestead but both were in pieces
and not repairable so I bought this one off ebay...

Classic Gram move.



It really is cool that there is always the chance that something will turn up.

Found this today in the basement Bri & everyone... Life jacket is a bit dirty & stained
and life raft has a hole in it...
wow! Flash made life vest look much cleaner than it really is...      

Shame on the damages Jim , but none the less what a memory to uncover.........That's priceless!
