Great atmospheric shots Dean! Personally, I think they look great.
I think if I was to attempt a night time shot, I would try lighting the scene with a desk lamp with a low watt bulb. Once the photos were taken, I would use an editing site like befunky (which is free) to darken the image and increse the shadow depth, but as I said, I think your shots look great!

Those are good , I would keep playing with the lighting till your happy with it , that`s the beauty of digital , it`s only costing you your time .

You could, like Dal said, use a low watt bulb, and you could try pointing the light the other way, and bouncing it back onto your guys. It'll soften and diffuse the light.
