Hello Chaps.
This is my first posting although I've been a member of AMMO for some time...I'm not really into the online forum thing. My name is Mark & I've been collecting vintage Action Man for 27 years. I'm currently on my third collection having sold the first in 1996/7 & the second in 2003/4. My first collection was 100% complete...it was far easier to obtain rare pieces back then!
My second collection was a missmatch of vintage Action Man & G.I. Joe...swiftly sold during my divorce! My third & current collection is what you see here. I collect only hard painted head figures & outfits from 1964 to 1969 with the odd favourite 70's & 80's outfits thrown in. I don't do plastic slings, only elastic. I don't have one fuzz head or eagle eyed figure in my collection & every figure of course has hard plastic hands. Unlike my first all original collection I'm easier & more relaxed with this one & sometimes include 40th Anniversary or reproduction pieces to finish off a set when required...I'm more interested in the enjoyment of collecting & the eye candy effect rather than the authenticity or the rarity of a piece these days.
The boxed figures you see usually stay in the dark & rarely come out...they are my crème de la crème. Mostly G.I. Joe S.O.T.W. With a few minty Action Man 60's sets. The S.O.T.W. Selection is my latest thing together again with any 64 to 69 Hasbro G.I. Joe outfits I come across.
Hope you enjoy.

For me the early 64 to 69 Action Man & G.I. Joe lines are total nostalgia. I love the old American G.I. Joe ad's & film footage. My first figure as a kid that I rememer was a second issue Action Soldier...I think a few 2nd issue Action Sailors made an appearance sometime too (around 1970 to 73) A school friend at the time had a hand-me-down...an original 66 painted head...I hated it cos he didn't have any realistic hair!...now I can't get enough of em! I've also got a photograph somewhere of myself on Christmas day 1971 opening up the box of my first Space Explorer! Wish I could find that photo or even better go back to that day knowing what I know now! Laughing

Hi Mark, fantastic collection you have there!

The PH figures look amazing all together in the display cases, some very nice pieces there.

My favourite era is the 70's fuzz heads but I do like most vintage era stuff.

Thanks Beatlefan. The display cabinets really do set off the collection. The guys were in a smaller antique mirror backed cabinet before but as the army grew they became like sardines! After a lot of searching & researching I found these cabinets...& with an LED lighting system installed, some dust protection fitted & a matching black ash riser/plinth, the outcome was perfect. These cabinets are amazing...I can't fault them.

affraid Ooh Lordy.....look at that collection!! You're redefined the term 'eye candy' for me Mark!

I know exactly what you mean about how we as kids viewed PH's once fuzzies had come out too. I had (..and still have!) the first fuzzy in my school/street. I remember we all looked at it and hated it. What was Palitoy thinking putting fuzz on an AM's head?? A few months later when a few more kids had fuzz heads we were looking down on PH''s like they were last season's football kit! lol!

Funny I don't remember hard hands incurring such scorn once gripper had come out though! scratch

Hey thanks for the comments!
I remember when gripping hands were first released. My brother 3 years younger than myself had the first. I immediately disliked the curled up fingers!...they didn't look 'real' compared to fixed plastic hands!

lol!
