Here's a review of this "deluxe" version of Captain Action Dr. Evil, from a company called Round2 Corp.

http://www.mwctoys.com/REVIEW_021113a.htm

Apparently the figure was released circa 2012, at a retail price of $35 USD.

I just discovered that the deluxe Dr. Evil is still available on Amazon (in the US, anyway) for only $25:

https://www.amazon.com/Captain-Action-Evil-Deluxe-Figure/dp/B007Q0ZA52

Or on eBay for prices ranging to as low as $20.

As soon as I saw in the review that the figure includes three interchangeable brains I knew I had to have one! One figure, that is... with three brains!

And a cool ray gun! And a totally gross disembodied eyeball on a stalk!

I did not know about these 2012 Captain Action releases. I was only familiar with the 1998 Playing Mantis versions. I have a Playing Mantis Dr. Evil and Captain Action.

But a Dr. Evil with a removable brain? Now that is high-level play value!

No....Dr Evil is far better looking!! lol! lol!

The Round 2 Captain Action series was fantastic..when it finally arrived as it had pre-production delays even A&S would be proud of! lol! but the basic figure and the Marvel sets were great. The company got the rights to do the DC characters too but unfortunately ended production before it made them.

Here's a link..

That's a fantastic series of pics of the Round2 Cap Action figs from 2012! Thank you for remembering and pointing out that topic!

Did the original Captain Action figs from IDEAL back in the 1960s have arms that looked too long? The Playing Mantis repros from 1998-1999 have the "ape arms" thing going on, and it looks like the Round2 figs also have a pretty good reach. Cap would be a valuable employee at Walmart/Asda with his superhuman ability to reach items on the top shelf.

Dr. Evil, Arch-Nemesis of Captain Action, by Playing Mantis Toys

The 1998 Playing Mantis Dr. Evil figure doesn't look too bad. Despite his cartoony countenance, he can even appear menacing in the right setting.
Of course, brandishing a broom-handle Mauser can make anyone look menacing!

This is the Dr. Evil from the Ming the Merciless costume set. This version of Dr. Evil is moulded in a more flesh-tone color rather than the usual green.
He is wearing the Kabai Singh outfit, which includes the scimitar and the Mauser. (Almost worth the price just for the weapons!)

Gah! Shocked  Out of curiosity, I looked up Dr. Evil (three brains version) on eBay-Australia. I see what you mean about prices + shipping Down Under! The only figs I see available are from US-based sellers, and while the figure can be had for $26 (AUS), the shipping doubles the price!

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Captain-Action-Dr-Evil-2012-12-Action-Figure-Set-w-Comic-Book-New-in-Box/303067246413

Oh! But wait! Surprised When that Australian Dollar price is converted in to US dollars (which eBay kindly did for me the second time I looked at the listing), the total price + postage is only $31 USD equivalent, or only three or four dollars more than the combined price + postage here in the States (and that was for the best available price on eBay, which is no longer available.  Razz )

So that's still a pretty good deal, and less than the original list price. I'd say go for it! Don't forget: ray gun! And creepy eye stalk thingie!

Our combined worldwide force of Dr. Evils will rule the AMMO forum! Bwaaaah haaah haaah haaah haaaaahhhhh...!!!!

I have no idea what eBay claims is the exchange rate, HOWEVER  I can reliable inform you that in real terms that particular figure plus shipping comes in at $76.68 Ozzie dollars, ....which is right on $53 American dollars! (Quite a bit more than the $31 you mention.)
And that's fairly dear, considering that most of the dough is NOT for the figure itself.
Again I say I wouldn't mind so much if the seller was getting the money, but it's that detestable Global Shipping Programme that eBay almost insists sellers use that really ups the price.

There was one listed locally, but upon investigation it's the less desirable Playing Mantis version.
Strange thing is when I got into this collecting thing, I wasn't all that interested in "The Villians" , but now I find I am developing quite a fascination for them.
I'd dearly love to be part of a Global Triad of Evil!

Wow! Never trust an eBay conversion, I guess is the moral of that story!

That's too bad. Definitely not worth fifty bucks... or seventy-six! Well, I shouldn't say definitely... more like, probably.

Well I'd say that it's probably worth what the seller is asking, but when the shipping exceeds the cost of the item then some very serious Buyer Resistance sets in!

Important to note, sellers in the US (or the UK) cannot see the eBay calculated shipping to wherever a prospective buyer maybe outside their country.
Some of them have been horrified when I've contacted them and told them what the amount is that's showing.

Sad  ..But don't ask any of us UK based members about the original 1960's CA line as it was never sold here! While we had all the other cool toys of the era, Ideal in their infinite wisdom decided the children of Britain obviously didn't need another action figure.

Imagine the company exec's talking..
'OK Captain Action launches across the US this xmas'
'Cool but what about the UK/European market?'
'Nah,,,kids over there aren't interested in action figures and superheroes!'

Almost serves them right that the line was cancelled due to poor sales after two years! Rolling Eyes

I used to look at the ad in US comics of the time and wonder when it would hit the shops like every other toy featured did!

Don’t you think the Dr Evil head sculpt looks like Gangrene head sculpt ? Capad

Continuing the trend into the present, while Toys'R'us US stocked the new Round 2 CA, Toys'R'us UK didn't! Shocked
Talk about hold a grudge! lol!

I do not recall ever seeing Captain Action figures on store shelves when I was a lad here in the States. My memories of Cap are from looking through the Sears, Roebuck & Co holiday toy catalog. None of my friends had any Captain Action figures. I wonder if, as is often the case with some brands today, distribution was problematic?

Interesting that one of the costume sets was "Steve Roper." There's a blast from the past, probably little recognized today. When I started reading newspaper comic strips, the Steve Roper character had already been semi-retired from his own strip, which had become "Steve Roper and his pal, Mike Nomad." Once every year or so Steve would show up for an adventure with Mike.

It is a bit ironic, if the original Captain Action was not distributed in the UK, that since the character of Lady Action (aka Lady Nichola Lauren Sinclair, or Nikki  Rolling Eyes ) was introduced (introduced circa 2008; figures released beginning circa 2014), she has been billed as "the British super-spy!"

Don’t you think the Dr Evil head sculpt looks like Gangrene head sculpt ? Tonner_Lady_Action

I guess they're still trying to play off of "The British Invasion" and "Beatlemania" that were sweeping the States in 1966 when the original Captain Action was introduced.

(The Tonner release was a limited edition, and as of last year, Tonner Dolls closed up shop. The Executive Replicas/TBLeague/Phicen version is also out of production. Playing Mantis, who released the re-issue Captain Action line, is out of business. Round2 is still around, but only produces diecast toy cars. Is Captain Action cursed? Or simply an outdated concept that was a niche market product even in its prime?)

There's more information about the various incarnations of Captain Action and his cronies at the Official Captain Action Website

Unfortunately, the web site is poorly designed, so it takes a lot of back-and-forth link-chasing to find things. The site has not been updated in over three years.

Quite possibly. The DC comic (an early example of character tie-ins that are so popular now) only lasted five issues although they were distributed in the UK.

Oh, that is very cool!

I actually purchased a 1:6 Playing Mantis Captain Action uniform via eBay a year or two back with the idea of trying to do a Lady Action kitbash. Never got around to it, though. The uniform for male figures is pretty baggy on female figures, and doesn't conform properly in the proper places.

I've done some obviously ineffective searches on the AMMO forum for Captain Action topics, but did not find any. I'm glad this topic was pointed out a couple of days ago, which has led to more Captain Action links being resurrected.

While I don't consider myself a huge fan, I do find Captain Action amusing, and it's great seeing that there is some Captain Action action on the forum... and Lady Action hasn't been ignored, either!

I find it amusing that the most common physical attribute that's apparently an absolute necessity for being a female spy/agent action figure, seems to be the possession of a set of enormous....... "mammaries"....yes?  Shocked Shocked Shocked

I also note that "Lady Action" was a full 16 inches tall, which means she'd tower over VAM and MAM!
She's a BIG girl in more ways than one!

The Tonner Lady Action release was 16 inches tall, based on Tonner's line of fashion dolls for the collector market rather than being a "playline" mass-market figure.

The Phicen/TBLeague version of Lady Action was released a year or two after the Tonner version, and is a 1:6 scale figure.

I think an Integrity Toys version of Lady Action based on their Poppy Parker or Dynamite Girls (now discontinued) lines would be just about perfect: 1:6 scale, with the trim, sophisticated, fashion-modelesque figure of the Tonner release and a total "ice princess" face sculpt.

Super-villains like Professor Gangrene are probably accustomed to having their plans thwarted and hi-jacked. It goes with the super-villain gig. There's no getting around it.

Razz

I should probably try to at least steer this topic back to Dr. Evil, otherwise I'm going to find myself tempted to purchase a TBLeague Lady Action at outrageous secondary market prices.

I'm curious about the Professor Gangrene figure: was that an actual Action Man release? Or is he a custom kitbash?
