CH 45
COVER - Captain Glynnis Penny-Farthing on the cover! Instant
. Fun title pun.
983 - Well... it would seem
Germans are involved in some kind of caper! The sharp, angular shadow of the desk cast on the camouflaged wall is suggestive of the "German expressionism" style of film-making, emphasizing the German-ness of the scene. Who is this mysterious Von Neuville figure with the hidden face? Something about her looks vaguely familiar.
And... what's this? An informant at BAM-HQ in cahoots with the Krauts?
984 - Germans... in South America... involved in a "super soldier" plot? Will Gregory Peck show up in the next panel?
985 -
Stronger... faster... better - she will be the world's first bionic... 'kay, never mind. We still haven't seen the face of this mysterious von Neuville girl. Of course, with camera angles like this, who's looking at her face? Ashtray on the desk is a nice retro visual touch.
Whoa - a breeding program for Teutonic sex kittens? Ilsa,
Rabid and Insatiable She-Wolf of the SS?
986 -
Whoa again! Cat Women of the Moon; or in this case, Cat Women of Dinosaur Valley? Or... are the Germans following the lead of their Axis allies and opening a chain of
cat cafes?
987 - New character introduced - by name only: General von Witzky-Saur! In addition to Wolff and... now we see her face, and she looks like...
Laura Neville, lead scientist of Kimono Troop Command?
Wait...
what's this? This German officer is Doctor Neville's sister? And she intends to kill Commander Takahara and kidnap her own sister to use in her nefarious schemes? While sacrificing as many of her own soldiers in the process as necessary? How diabolical! Apparently, however, plans might be hindered by an unfortunate level of incompetence in the ranks. That's what generations of inbreeding will do, I guess. So much for Master Race theory.
Why, I wonder, is von Neuville confiding so much information to Wolff? Is he trustworthy? Is this Need To Know information? Is this a typical comic book style plot device?
988 - The Katanga Diamonds? The long-rumored, long-sought Katanga Diamonds? The plot thickens. I wonder, will Super Sex Kitten have an innate sense for sniffing out
diamonds?989 - The merest mention of diamonds is enough to bring the babes out of the woodwork. Speaking of woodwork, I'm
loving the look of those camo-painted walls! Not that camouflage is necessarily needed indoors, other than to look cool... which is reason enough!
990 - Nice line about diamonds from the Marilyn Monroe look-alike! Well... if Marilyn Monroe were a stormtrooper.
991 - Tish! I mean Glynn! Speak more French... oui? Or... we? Or... typo? Or missing word? Who cares - check out the hot army girls in hot army hot pants!
992 - Ah... a plan is unveiled! Although... leaving Bond-Fleming behind when the rest of the operation is All Girl might also serve to reduce the potential for distraction. Plus, he's probably busy putting the final touches on plans for the
43rd Annual All England Retro Secret Agent, Assassin, and Evil Villain Costume Contest.
993 -
WHAT indeed! The Katanga Stash has been discovered and retrieved,
and K-Troop has discovered a portal in to Dinosaur Valley? They've been busy there at K-Troop!
994 - Ha! I love it!
"Then why are we here... if it isn't for a dump-truck load of diamonds?" Good question! Is it possible to un-volunteer for this mission?
Who, I wonder, could the "secret ally" be?
And what's with sharing the diamonds with
Jake Rivers? What did
he have to do with the recovery operation?
Is
Tibias involved in this in any way?
995 -
Cheese it! The Krauts! Good point about the "too quiet" thing! But... the "it's nothing" trope is as valid a trope as the "too quiet" trope. You two troopers have two tropes against you at his point!
996 - Red Goggles is pretty perceptive... but just a smidgin too late! Who is this cute young girl with the cheery, polite greeting?
The first pic, of Red Goggles being stalked by Michiko in the soft-focus background, looks really cool! Amazingly detailed rifle, too - looks real!
997 - Well... she's still cute, and still cheery, but the "polite" thing didn't last long! She's certainly
thorough in her work!
Great sound effects! The "splats" are particularly grisly!
998 -
"Well, saw-ree!"Michiko is such a typical teenager. Except maybe for the machine-gun and free-reign to slaughter anyone unfortunate enough to show up in her sights part.
999 - Seems like Teen Angel has a better idea of what she's doing than her unbridled enthusiasm would suggest! Speaking of unbridled... yeah, maybe she could stand to zip up that hoodie just a little bit!
That exhange with Takahara being oblivious to Miyori is funny. Except, probably not to Miyori. (Who was, relevant to nothing, my
first K-Troop crush! Then Glynnis appeared on the scene. But first loves are hard to forget!)
1000 - Pulling the team together to figure out what they're facing and what their next move should be. What
are they facing? What is it about the "scragged Boches" that doesn't sit will with Commander Takahara?
And...
and... the
Hidden in the Shadows project has hit a MAJOR MILESTONE - ONE-THOUSAND PAGES! A thousand pages over forty-five installments! Congratulations to everyone involved, to K-Troop Command for taking the story in to four-digit territory, and to BAM-HQ for helming this project through to this point! A hearty "WELL DONE" to everyone involved!
