Kamiko and Miyori in One to One World. Using Nikon Auto FP sync mode and high shutter speed to tame strong sunlight.

These photos were specifically shot at a time of day where the sun is striking background object with such intensity that achieving an workable lighting ratio between the background and the subject in the foreground would be difficult without the NIKON Auto FP sync mode which syncs the camera flash to very high shutter speed (1/320), which combined with a high f.stop greatly reduces the intensity of hot areas in the background, allowing while using micro bursts of flash energy to ensure the foreground figure(s) is / are properly lit.

In these photos, the subject was lit by a single Nikon Speedlight, high to camera left.

Thanks, TN. The set was specifically shot with purpose of using my skills to overcome the challenges of light and scale discrepancy.

I am envious of your skill at overcoming the challenges of high-contrast outdoor lighting! The images look great, the figures are well posed and nicely kitted out, and it's great to see Kimono Troop Command back in military style action!

I don`t know how you get your head around such tech , I am sure it`s basically fill in flash , except it sounds like the camera has taken a lot of the hassle out of it for you , and it works really well looking at your photos .

It's more than just fill flash. Th situation is that background light is very strong and just using fill flash to balance it out would leave a sort of bland image. However using the Auto FP sync mode, allows me to use the flash at higher shutters speeds than normally used while combining this with high f.stop really tames all that strong light in the background allowing the flash to light up the foreground figure nicely with a muted backdrop.
