I got the name Ogre from a book I have read a few times , in the book Ogre was not an M.60 Gunner , however I felt it a fitting name for My M.60 Gunner . I kitted Ogre out with a customised asbestos glove , which was used to change the barrel on the M.60 , the barrels could get very hot or even burnt out from continuous bursts against the approaching enemy . He has oil and an old tooth brush for keeping the beast clean . Apart from the belts of ready ammo worn in Mexican style crossed over his chest , he carries a box of ammo strapped over his shoulder . More often than not there would be an assistant gunner , it was his job to help feed the 60 , and run for more ammo which was distributed amongst the men in the squad . Another popular name for the M.60 in Vietnam was the Pig . It was a heavy weapon to carry around . The M.60 Gunners were a hot target for the Vietcong and NVA , and many gunners had the sense when they could to constantly keep changing position , life expectancy for these guys was statistically short . A common sight for Marine Gunners was to wedge their K.Bar knife behind the holster of their pistol . I like having the different sculpts for " Ogre " , as you can portray him in need of anger management , and when he is feeling more at peace .
There are a couple of pics showing an assistant gunner poring on oil in an attempt to keep the barrel cool .....

The M.60 actually makes little if any muzzle flash , what you normally see coming from the barrel is small clouds of smoke / steam . It`s a nice effect though .

Fantastic fig! Even more excellent with the background info about things like the asbestos glove and the constant oiling! Great set of images, action-packed!

Even with tracers? I once heard the average life span of an M60 gunner was 4.8 seconds once a firefight started.

Sorry, I can't envisage that bloke ever being "at peace" at all! He's a one-man demolition team!
Great work!

Thanks for the further kind words . at Barry . Regarding Muzzle flash , I watched a few videos of the 60 in action and all I see was the aforementioned smoke / steam . I think flash suppressors were fitted to many weapons by the time M.60s and M16s arrived , this maybe why ?

Well I was never in the military, and certainly not under enemy fire, but to my way of thinking you wouldn't want any muzzle-flash pin-pointing your exact position to the enemy. Hence I'd imagine it would be suppressed?
