As a kid I loved playing on a bit of 'beach' near my nan's house in Battersea. I also love the scene in the movie 'Daleks Invasion Earth 2150AD' where a Dalek emerges from the Thames and captures Dr Who. Well while watching a programme about movie locations last year I was amazed to discover that both places were one and the same!
'My' beach..
'...Is where this was filmed!
How impressed would I have been as a kid if I'd known that! We didn't move to the area until 1972 so I was 7 years too late for the 1965 filming but it still makes somewhere I already considered cool even cooler!
The excellent site 'Dalek6388' has a great infograph explaining it all.
(used without permission but I hope they don't mind.)
This is a pic I took in 2017 when I was randomly passing by.
Given the place's new cool movie location status I thought I'd send Joe and Hank on a recon mission to check it out.
The surrounding area has changed beyond recognition with over-priced luxury apartments on both banks of the river but the beach itself looks pretty much the same.
As does the church St Mary's.
Poet and painter William Blake was married in the church and American revolutionary soldier Benedict Arnold is interred in the crypt.
Anyway I thought it would be cool for a Dalek to menacingly trundle up the beach again.
