I remember those! We only had cheap knock-off versions, lightweight plastic, that you had to throw directly at the ground with considerable force to get to pop, and even then success was rare.

Shaped like a WWII finned bomb it was weighted at the front and you threw it up in the air and the caps went off as it hit the concrete. You had to fold a strip of caps up to fit in it, so packets of caps never lasted very long. Of course we always over-loaded it......ever bigger bangs and smoke! Great vintage stuff Jim. I am very envious of your collection, and it seems in such great condition too. Have you had these since childhood?
YES those caps are my childhood later 1960's...
Yes great memories we have!

Jim are any of these figures your actual childhood toys, or have you purchased them at some later date?

Ha ha! YES! That is the exact style of "cheap" cap rocket that we had as kids! I believe there was another little plastic piece that screwed on over the nose, but we always took them off, too, because the caps were louder with the shroud removed. And it always fell off anyway.

I like that steaming coffee cup wall clock!
What I like even more is that, situated next to the navy guy in the breeches buoy, the "steam" from the coffee looks like the tentacles of a giant octopus making a grab for him!

It's nice to see original figures the way they first appeared. My first and only Gi Joe was the Land Adventurer, plus an action pack, and the helicopter and headquarters. I have a brother 4 years younger, but by then Joes were not too popular. Then my Joe was lost, (probably thrown away) and all I have from those days is the top lid of the rescue raft backpack. I always wonder if my old LA is lying in pieces in a box somewhere at Mom's house - to be discovered years from now. If so, I now have the ability to make him look like new! It's a fond dream, which probably fueled my collector's bug, and my enjoyment in restoring old Joes.
