A couple of years ago I had big plans for a thread celebrating Joe's 50th birthday, but unfortunately Covid, Lockdown and real life in general got in the way and the thread fizzled out before I could do all the things I wanted too.
Well whadda ya know, this year marks the 50th of another AMMO big name. . . no not our Gracious Leader Dal ( even though it is his 50th too!)
No, a certain VAM sailor of our acquaintance,
Back in '72 I picked a Sailor as my new VAM as I'd been inspired by the naval theme of the Sea Devils episodes of Dr Who.
Well Hank sees their return as this weeks guest villian as a sign he should continue the 50th thread where Joe left off.

When I was a kid, I thought of the bearded Adventure Team figures as being probably about 40 years old. If that was 50 years ago, well...
HAPPY 90th, Hank old boy!
Who'd a thunk we'd still be playing with these guys after half a century?
Coincidentally, I was listening to a Beach Boys compilation album today, and a line from their song "When I Grow Up (To Be A Man)" caught my attention:
When I grow up to be a man Will I dig the same things that turn me on as a kid?
I guess we know the answer to that!

Happy 50th to Hank! probably the best known sailor around these parts!with Spud ranking up there too! He has certainly racked up quite the career! Let's hope he takes the time to share some of his past adventures, as well as what is planned for his 50th!

It's not actually Hank's birthday yet. I got him sometime during the school summer holidays so all we can be sure of is that he's a Leo! . . . But anyway Cliff's now put him in charge of the general 50th activities as Joe seemed to be dragging his heels!

I remember as a kid writing dossiers and personnel reports for my VAM and listing Joe's date of birth as 1948 which made him a typical combat soldier's age at the time but of course that was prior to his 40 year hiatus in the loft. I think I'll use the comic book superhero approach. Batman and Superman have been portrayed as 30 years old over their entire 80 odd year publication history so if it's good enough for them it's good enough for my guys!

Nice, Steve !! Going to be VERY interesting to see how Hank manages the mission to celebrate the big FIVE-0.

Super cool Steve ,
I'm so glad the 50th vibe is on track....Joe had better watch out or Hank will be out of control.. you know what those sailor boys can be like
Dal /Jake what are your plans too ?
Dave, yep ... "When I grow up to be a man Will I dig the same things that turn me on as a kid?"
I was just reflecting on that as I was on my knees looking for a camera angle at the grand old age of 61 !

Thanks Al!
So 50 years ago this month, during the school summer holidays of 1972, A young VAM Sailor named Hank joined the SKJ crew. The rest as they say is history. . .
Happy 50th Hank!
'Wasn't I a handsome devil back in the day!' One of the first of Palitoy's new fangled Royal Navy Sailors.
'Me kinky?? I have no idea what you mean!'
Hank's idea of all the ingredients for a perfect Saturday night!
'You want to do what on your bosses' desk??'
Hank at 50. As ship shape as ever!!
