BOXED TALKING COMMANDER 1973

1971 and 1972 steered clear of any boxes and concentrated on carded uniforms especially the football kits which i must admit i hated as a kid and still not keen on them now. In 1973 they released another Talking Commander but as with all the figures now it boasted of not just realistic hair but now had Gripping hands too which was great considering the only boxed figure up until now that came with a weapon was the soldier and his hard hands were pants and couldn't even hold the rifle ;( This is the only talking commander that came with a colt pistol and also had a snazzy new field uniform and officers cap. This is a real rare box to find as it was only produced for one year. I know this was also released with a leaflet similar to that of the last Talking Commander. The insignia was also included with this release as was the very first cup that protected his new gripping hands. This cup/thimble was made of metal

I can never forget seeing AM gripping hands for the first time It very exciting times back then as a youngster. The first version grippers were a bit thin and weak at the fingers, they were prone to breaking off. I think Palitoy redesigned them a year later, to have stronger thicker fingers.

Most definitely, I always keep a blob inside my vam carry-box. Blu-Tack can also be used to hang wallpaper! It allows for easy removal somewhere down the line

So this figure had the Lebel pistol rather than the Colt 45, Dan?
